Most people think that body fat is just fat accumulation in your body. At most they are just unhealthy and not pleasing to the eye. Some even think that having a little paunch on the tummy is cute and the superstitious ones may even think that it is a sign of prosperity. However, do you know that your body fat, especially your belly fat could be killing you? You are shocked that this can happen, aren't you?

This article will show you what lurks in your belly fat and why you must get rid of your paunch as quickly as possible to live longer or even to save your life from premature death. Yes, I know this is a very strong statement, but I am adamant to take a strong stand about it.

You see, visceral fat is fat deposit that builds up and wraps itself over your vital internal organs such as your heart, liver and especially the organs in your abdomen. It is well documented that visceral fat increases the risk of coronary diseases like heart attacks, hypertension and diabetes, just to name a few of them. So do you still think that your tummy paunch is cute now?

It is visceral fat that makes your belly bigger giving you that beer belly round stomach look. It is not a joking matter that visceral fat can cause untimely deaths in people with wider and bigger waistlines.

In a study published in August 2010 by the Archives Of Internal Medicine, more than one hundred thousand people over the age of 50 being tracked for nine years concluded that those with bigger waistlines are more likely to die of respiratory diseases, followed by cardiac diseases and then by various forms of cancers, even terminal ones. Yes, your tummy fat could be killing you slowly if you are not going to do something about it like losing weight. That is scary, isn't it?

Although visceral fat have the job of protecting your internal organs, too much of it is hazardous to your health and certainly your well being. This is because the fat that is in your tummy breaks up more easily than your subcutaneous fat found under the skin which shows up as flabby arms, buttocks and thighs. When this happens, it releases free fatty acids into your bloodstream which then travel to your liver where they block certain pathways and as such, medical issues like insulin resistance and diabetes may start to occur.

Your waistline is a good indicator of the amount of visceral fat you have in your body. The bigger your girth, the more dangerous visceral fat you have built up. The problem is that most people are just not aware of the dangers and thus do nothing about their bulging tummies.

Although women put on fat more easily than men, guys are more prone to accumulating visceral fat than women as women tend to put on more subcutaneous fat. However, post-menopausal women are also at risk at developing excessive visceral fat because of lower levels of the estrogen hormone and its accompanying protective effects.

Furthermore, as we age, the battle against our belly fat becomes harder because of the decrease in our basic metabolic rate. This makes it easier for us to gain weight if we do not make an effort to eat better foods and to start exercising regularly.

The good news is that visceral fat is easier to lose than subcutaneous fat because it breaks down faster. So if you have a bulging belly or a protruding stomach, it is time for you to start exercising regularly and eating properly to get rid of your visceral fat.

If you want to live longer and to avoid life threatening diseases, then start getting rid of the fat around your tummy right now before it kills you.
