The key to maintaining good sexual health is more simple than you might think. For the most part, it simply involves doing things that every person should do anyway; working out, eating right, and taking care of one's heart.

Maintaining good health is paramount to having a high quality sex life. Contrary to what many people think, much of this maintenance occurs above the belt.

Being generally healthy is the first step to maintaining good health sexually. Obviously, being obese or overweight is not a good state in which to be. If you are a man leading a sedentary lifestyle, then your sex life will probably be similarly sedentary. Chances are, if you are physically fit, then you likely have good sexual health.

A crucial part to being physically fit is controlling your diet. Eating a diet rich in fast food, fried chicken, ice cream, and candy will leave you feeling lethargic and bloated. Such feelings make it very difficult to coax oneself to the gym, or other physical activity, and therefore not only one's physical health suffers. Maintaining a diet filled with healthy items such as fruits, veggies, and protein will help you feel healthy. Feeling healthy makes exercise more enjoyable, and therefore good sexual health much easier to achieve.

Maintaining a healthy heart is also of the utmost importance when trying to increase sexual health. For obvious reasons, good circulation and blood flow is key for men. Having a healthy heart requires discipline in eating and exercise. Eating foods which are high in saturated fats like hamburgers, hotdogs, and many dairy products, cause arteries to clog. Our arteries are a big part of what determines our quality of blood flow. Performance is sorely affected when blood can't properly flow through the genital region. A heart made strong through good cardiovascular exercise, in conjunction with healthy eating will help increase blood flow in all regions of the body, and thus improve sexual healthfulness.

Limiting one's intake of toxins whether legal or illegal will increase one's ability to maintain good sexual health. Many drugs affect a man's ability to perform sexually. Smoking is bad for the heart. Drinking alcohol in excess can lead to many different problems. Many illicit drugs specifically have negative sexual side affects. Essentially, if the item in questions contains many toxins which are bad for your body, it will probably have a negative effect.

Getting enough sleep is also important. Our bodies are better at fighting off disease when we are well rested. Fatigue can be a big factor in eliminating one's sex drive, or desire to do anything physical, for that matter. Sleep well, and it is much easier to be healthy.

For the most part, maintaining good sexual health simply involves some common sense. Everybody knows that eating the right foods and exercising are integral parts to enjoying a healthy lifestyle. Sexual health is no different. If your body is healthy, your sex life will be probably be healthy too.
