Longevity - is this a good thing or not? Indeed, there are many people who have extended life expectancy. There is a set of reasons why people tend to live longer - healthier food, adherence to diet and weight control, more exercise, use of drugs to fight diseases connected to old age like cholesterol, heart disease, blood pressure and early detection of cancer.
As the baby boomers in the society are now reaching the retirement age, there would be a need for their carers. There tends to be a great demand for skilled elderly carers. The demand for these kind of service personnel even went high because of the establishments of many home care organizations. Staffing is their concern - people who are compassionate to the elderly, staff who are well-trained are needed.
As the services rendered by the home care institutions are varied, even with cases of personalized and customized programs, the qualifications of the staff become varied also. And when a carer is hired from these institutions, the exact requirement of the elderly should be specified in order to be matched by the appropriate carer.
Nurses are needed in the health care service. Many seniors are already encountering health problems. Nurses are needed for those who are more debilitated and those who would opt to be in their homes than in the hospital. As this may be one of the highest service, this could also demand higher fee.
Nursing assistants are also needed in the aged care facilities. These members of the staff will work as a part of the company's nursing team. They assist the nurses and they are the support of the aged in their day to day activities.
Personal care assistant is another designation for a staff in an aged health care service center. Their role will be in making the elderly feel comfortable. They will imbibe in the senior the feeling of being cared for. Through these members of the home care staff, the personal hygiene, medication, physical activities and communication of the senior patient are monitored and looked after.
Home care assistants are dispatched in the residences of seniors who would prefer staying at home than in nursing care centers. These workers are assigned to patients who are not yet bed-ridden or highly debilitated. Their function is to help the elderly maintain their daily routine at home. They watch for the patient's mobility and proper functioning. They administer medication. There are those that can be hired to help in the daily activities of the aged, help in the household duties, and provide company for the elderly's socialization.
All of the staff can be hired part time or full time. The emergence of the home care facilities had also helped the government in its problem of providing homes and health care for the aged citizens. With these establishments, children of the aged had been given better option of taking care of the retiring baby boomer.
