If you are a surgeon and you are looking for new tools for your operating room you want to make sure that you are educated on the latest technology. The field of medical technology is rapidly changing.

Often times it may feel that with each step your practice makes the field of technology and equipment seems to stay a step ahead of you. Although this can be frustrating you want to make sure that you have as much up to date equipment as you can.

The first machine that you may want to start with in you practice or in your hospital is your generator. There are many different types of generators out there and you want to make sure that yours is going to support your equipment through a whole surgery.

There are not many malfunctions that are more frustrating or more dangerous than the malfunction of your generator. You should take the time to find the generator that is going to be the most consistent for you in the setting that you need it in.

Being confused and frustrated with your generator is no way to start a surgery. You should have full confidence in the generator that you are using to ensure that you are able to give your full concentration the patient that you are operating on.

You want to make sure that your generator has displays that are large and easy to read. These displays should be obviously visible and you should be able to see and read the displays even when you are standing at a distance.

There are some generators being sold now that even have a recall feature. This means when you turn on the generator in the operating room it will recall the previous power setting and mode as soon as you turn it on.

When you want to adjust the power settings you will want to do so with ease. Holding out until you find a machine that will allow you change your power settings quickly and accurately will be well worth your time and effort in the long run.

Some people complain that even turning on their current generator is frustrating. The power switch should be on the front of your generator and it should be clearly marked and easy to turn on and off.

When you are purchasing a generator you probably will not give thought to having a return electrode warning light. Although it may not be the first thing you think about you will want to make sure that you have a return electrode warning light that is easy to read.

The different settings on your generator should also be easy to switch between and understand. The more that you understand about how the machine functions the better able you will be to utilize the machine when it really counts.

When you are in the operating room you have probably also run into the problem of electrosurgical smoke plume in high concentrations. This can be dangerous to health personnel and surgeons as well as the patient.

There are different ways that you can learn to deal with this smoke. Some surgeons and their surgery staff just put up with the smoke and learn to work through it while others cannot and buy a vacuum system that takes the smoke out of the room.

If you are looking for one of these vacuum systems you want to make sure that you find the machine that is most beneficial for your staff. When a nurse of a different staff members starts to have serious problems with the smoke you should talk with him or her about the vacuum.

Utilizing the newest technology in your operating room can be an overwhelming and a daunting task. As you are taking the time to understand what you need in your operating room do not close your mind to new technology.

The more that you understand and learn about the different tools that are available the better care you will be able to give your patients. Focusing on your patients and what is best for them may help motivate you to find the latest technology.

Although it is good to have the latest technology you cannot get too caught up in it. There will always be something new and exciting to look at and buy and sometimes it is more beneficial to stick with what you have.

Providing surgeries that are safe, clean, efficient and effective should be your number one priority when you are operating.
