Pharmacist jobs are abundant everywhere. They provide the service of medication distribution and often give advice to patients about medications, prescribed or over the counter. They advise on side effects, dosages and interactions to encourage safety. People who choose this field have the option of doing a few different things. They can do traveling from pharmacy to pharmacy or they can choose to consult at healthcare facilities. They are not restricted to just working in a retail drug store or hospital facility.

Most pharmacists have drugs prepackaged and delivered where they distribute them. The actual mixing of the drugs is done somewhere other than their office. The jobs available are usually in local community drugstores or larger facilities, like hospitals and clinics but there are other options, as well. A friendly and compliant attitude is helpful in any atmosphere when dealing with patients and clients.

Most pharmacists can also be of help in getting nutrition information, diet plans and recommendations for good home healthcare supplies or equipment. They can suggest stress-management plans. They can often help fill out medical paperwork and insurance forms. There is an opportunity to remain in a chosen community, opening up a small facility, hiring employees and managing the operation of the pharmacy. This opens up the possibility of more specialized care opportunities, such as offering help to diabetics, cancer patients or those with other ongoing diseases.

Pharmacists are responsible for the accuracy of every prescription they fill. They take a persons life in their hands every time and must be certain everything is correct. They will watch for drug prescriptions that may interact with another one that has been prescribed. They keep accurate records to eliminate drug interaction risk. They may hire technicians to help in the delegating of prescriptions and often have students as interns.

There are examinations and tests to be passed before a license to act as a pharmacist can be obtained. A Doctor of Pharmacy degree would need to be acquired for this to be possible. These programs generally take about four years to complete and will have classes such as biology, chemistry and physics as requirements. They would learn about business management, ethics and public health issues.

Further training can be attained through fellowships and internships for one or two years. There is room for advancement, as pharmacists often start at the entry level positions and move up, unless they seek to open their own business quickly. Most, however, find employment in clinical and office settings.

It is expected that this field will be one of the careers growing at a substantially higher rate than others. It is expected that as the technology grows in our understanding of the medical field, changes in medication will create a constant need for more and more people taking an interest in pharmacology.

Salaries for pharmacist jobs are excellent. In the recent years, the lowest incomes ranged from $70,000 to $80,000 a year and many were as high as $110,000 annually. The difference generally depends on location and size of the office.
