Stationary bikes that can be purchased and used in the home have created another option for people to exercise on. Treadmills first brought exercise to the home, but they can sometimes cause some health problems that turn people off of using them.
Ellipticals were a better option because they did not put so much strain on the joints. However, stationary bicycles are preferred by some people because they allow you to sit down while you exercise.
In addition, some stationary bicycles are starting to have video games that you can play on them while you are exercising. In order to play the game you must pedal, so it is a great way to forget about how long or hard exercising is and focus on the game.
You may be surprised how much you had actually exercised when you are finished with the game. Exercising brings so many benefits to those who participate in it.
For example, those who exercise will become physically stronger, have a higher level of endurance, and achieve a higher level of overall fitness. They may also experience better hand to eye coordination, balance, flexibility, and exhibit less clumsiness in comparison to before they began exercising.
In addition to all of the physical benefits, people who exercise will also experience a greater of level of self-confidence and self-esteem. With these things, people who exercise generally take more of the opportunities offered to them and they usually find more success in the things that they choose to participate in.
Stationary bikes also enhance these benefits because they can be used at home. When parents use their home stationary bike often, their children see how important exercising is to them.
As a result, they may develop the healthier lifestyle by incorporating exercise into their lives at a very early age. Parents who experience all of these benefits definitely want to share them with their children.
It is very important as you begin exercising to set goals for yourself. Without these goals it will be very easy for you to say to yourself that it is okay to miss one day of exercising.
This is true, but all too often this one day of missed exercising leads to another which leads to another. The goals you set may be to lose so much weight, lift so much weight, run or bike so far in a certain time, or simply to spend a certain amount of time on the stationary bike doing your best.
Unfortunately, you may notice after a certain period of time that you do not seem like you are improving any more or coming closer to your goals. This is called the plateau.
In order to avoid the plateau or to get through it, you must mix up your exercise routine once in a while. There are two basic ways in which you can do this.
The first method is to change the settings on your stationary bike to be longer, faster, or harder. However, this method is not very interesting even though it is effective.
The second method that you can choose is to train for and participate in an unusual sport. This method is much more interesting and it may motivate you to continue exercising longer.
One unique and unusual activity you may want to participate is in called the Coal Carrying Competition. This competition has existed since 1963 when a confrontation between three acquaintances within Gawthorpe.
No matter how the confrontation started, one man ended up saying that he was as fit as one of the others. The other then challenged that they each carry a sack of coal and race each other up to the top of the woods.
The third man suggested that they hold the race as an official competition in town the following Monday, as the town was sleepy and needed something exciting to happen. It was decided that the entrants would race with sacks of coal from the Barrack, or Royal Oak Public House, to the Maypole.
The competition was decided to be a success, and the race has been held every Easter Monday in the small town of Gawthorpe ever since. This even has drawn an increasing number of contestants and spectators each year.
Both the spectators and the competitors are full of good humor and excitement on this day. They hold a race for men and another for women.
This race is light hearted and full of good feelings. It is a great way to change up your routine.
