When the temperatures rise from May to August, it is most likely that the last thing on anyone's mind is their desire to exercise. Warm weather makes human beings instinctively lazier.

Being in the cold causes muscles to contract, in order to conserve body heat. Warmth causes the body to have the opposite reaction; the brain tells the muscles to contract to avoid overheating.

Other factors like vacations, allergies, dehydration, and less sleep can also make it difficult to motivate oneself during this time. However, just because the season has changed does not mean your body needs less exercise to stay fit.

There are still ways that you can increase your heart rate and burn fat; in fact, it should cause an increase in energy and regulate you sleep cycles. Cardiovascular exercise is vital, no matter what time of year.

In order to get the needed exercise without overheating or dehydrating your body, you need to choose an optimal time to run. This should be done before ten o'clock in the morning or six o'clock at night; there will be enough light for you to be safe but not enough for you to get too hot.

Always be sure to drink enough water before and after working out. If you feel at all thirsty, try and drink an entire glass of water.

Because you are bound to do more sweating in warmer temperatures, your body could lose essential salts and electrolytes from your system. You should also make use of athletic drinks and liquids; they will give you a boost of energy and replenish those things that are lost when you perspire.

It is essential that you start out slowly; run moderately or walk for less time than you would in comfortable weather. Then, when you feel comfortable and are not experiencing as much heating or tiredness, increase the time or intensity of your run.

Another aspect of summer running that can cause you grief is allergens in the air. Check the pollen updates for your area before you decide to exercise outside.

If you wear contacts, you may want to wear shades or make use of your regular glasses. It will keep you from experiencing as much itching in the eyes.

Those that really experience discomfort outdoors could make use of an antihistamine or switch their workout to inside. If you are going to exercise in your home or at a gym, you must make a goal to motivate yourself each day to do so.

When you become lazy during the summer months, it may be difficult to leave your home. You can still exercise, however, with the use of workout equipment or instructional DVD's.

One machine that offers a great cardiovascular workout is an elliptical, because in increases heart rate without stressing joints or taking too much energy. It offers the option of you to burn fat in the cool of the air conditioning.

Each machine will have a number of different ways to change or optimize your daily routine, such as incline and workout programs. That way, you can use it the entire summer without getting bored or complacent.

Another great option that will assist you to staying fit during the heat are workout DVD's. There are hundreds of different types and genres for you to choose from, so pick one that will be fun and that you will look forward to participating in.

Swimming is another method to burning calories and fat that will keep you cool. If you have your own pool, decide how many laps will be adequate to giving you enough exercise.

Your heart rate should be at an increased rate for at least a thirty minute period. This can be alternated with low and high intensity if you wish to really get rid of those extra pounds.

Those that are serious about getting enough cardio or swimming for a specific distance may find it easier to use the pool at a gym or public venue. Any of these will have specific lap lanes set up for those that are using the pool for exercise.

However, just because you are cool in the water does not mean that you can neglect drinking water and hydrating yourself just as much as you would if you were performing another type of exercise. Utilizing these tips will help you stay fit and trim, even when it is difficult to find the energy during summer months.
