It can be difficult to decide which kind of shoe will be the best for you to exercise in. There are hundreds and even thousands of different kinds of sport related shoes.

This is evident by visiting one shoe store that is designed for athletes. However, which kind of shoe you wear to exercise in does matter.

This is part of why there are so many shoes. Unfortunately, this creates a dilemma for most exercisers because they want to wear they right kind of shoe and the ones that will be best for them, but they do not know which kind of shoe that is.

It is important that you not only wear the best shoe for your sport, but the best shoe for you. Everyone's feet are different and have different needs that should be met.

You should careful consider your size, shape, and tendencies that a pair of shoes will meet before you purchase them. For example, if you have very high arches, you will need to find a shoe with abnormally high and excellent arch support.

It is also a good idea to try running, walking or jumping in the shoes when you try them on in the store. This will give you an idea of how it will feel when you really use the shoes.

It can be really difficult to find the right shoe, but there will be one out there that will seem like it was made for you. Do not give up and settle for the wrong shoe.

The trick is to learn how to find the right pair of shoes among the thousands of wrong pairs that are also available. First of all, pretend you are going to exercise when you leave to try on shoes.

Wear the same kind of socks you normally wear when you exercise. In addition, go try on the shoes late in the day when you feet a slightly swollen from walking around all day.

This is the state your feet will be in after you exercise. If you try on shoes in the morning, your feet will be smaller than when you actually exercise and you will purchase shoes that are too small.

Some athletes wear ankle braces when they exercise. If you are one of these athletes, wear the ankle braces when you go to try on shoes.

The second thing you should do is learn some of the vocabulary associated with feet. This will help you understand what the sales associate is talking about when he or she examines your foot.

The first vocabulary term you should be familiar with is pronation. This term refers to how your ankle moves.

When you land on the heel and ball of your foot at the same time, the ankle does not rotate to compensate at all. This is referred to as a neutral foot strike. However, those who are classified as over-pronators, will allow their ankle to rotate inward.

Those who are over-pronators generally have flat or fallen arches. Under-pronators on the other hand will not have enough flexion in their stride and they usually have high, stiff arches and feet.

If you are and over- or under- pronator you will need to purchase shoes that will combat these conditions. Ask a sales associate to examine the way you walk if you are unsure as to whether you have a problem or not.

Of all types of athletes, runners definitely have the most variety in their selection of shoes. This is because proper foot motion is critical to the health of the runner as it is a very repetitive form of exercise.

While this applies some to all sports, it is even more necessary here. The best shoes for runners with flat feet are motion-control shoes.

Motion-control shoes are study, heavier than other running shoes, and provide excellent arch support. In addition, they help stop the ankle from rolling in too far.

Cushion type shoes are the best for those who have high arches and those who tend to under pronate. These shoes encourage a smooth rolling motion from heel to ball of the foot.

However, if you have a neutral foot, the best pair of shoes is somewhere between these two types. You will want to look for a medium cushioning level, motion control, and stability.

These shoes are great for running, but do not have too much support. Exercising will be much more comfortable if you have the right pair of shoes.
