Do you get tired of running or biking on a flat surface day after day? It becomes difficult to motivate yourself when you are stuck doing the same type of exercise continuously; it is also causes your body to stop progressing in fitness.

When you reach a plateau, workouts do not affect you as much as they once did. A way that you can prevent this from happening is changing your usual habits.

A small but significant change that you can make is performing your cardiovascular exercise on an incline. It will make your body work harder and alter the angle of the terrain you are performing on; this will strengthen new muscles and challenge you in a different way.

When jogging on an inclined surface, your legs will definitely feel more of a burn than they normally would. The new added resistance will work your body in a different manner that it was used to before, so start out slowly and use a lower speed and intensity than you usually would.

The new added element will be evident in your calves, quads, hamstrings, and buttocks. These areas should be paid special attention to after your workout; be sure to stretch and properly cool them down.

Those that most often choose to get their cardio outdoors should try running on a hiking or hill trail. Mountain paths are a great option; they will offer you new sights and stimulation, while also providing a slanted surface.

Make use of stairs anywhere you find them, whether it is in your own home or at a public stadium nearby. Interval training mixed with an incline can be especially good for increasing heart rate and burning extra fat within the body.

Run on flatter ground for one minute, and then follow it by running up and down a flight of stairs for one minute, alternating the times and intensities. Those that want to get the best workout possible will repeat this task six to eight times.

Anyone that does not prefer to run for cardio can still make use of a hiking trail nearby. As long as you are moving and getting your muscles warm on an inclined surface or terrain, you will be getting rid of extra calories and strengthening muscle.

Angles can turn your usually walking habit into an intense fitness routine. If you have any parks or neighborhoods near to you where terrain or streets are hilly, go for a brisk walk and explore.

Even those that are unable to raise their heart rat outdoors due to cold or hot climates can make use of inclined surfaces indoors, as well. Almost all exercise machines have a setting that allows to increase the height or angle at which you are running or walking.

An elliptical machine is one that will be especially useful to increasing leg strength and working your cardiovascular system. Be sure to increase the incline prior to beginning your time on the equipment.

You may notice soreness after your first few experiences on the machine, because it will be challenging different muscles in your legs. The best thing you can do is to start out slowly at a low resistance.

Once you start feeling more powerful in your legs and you feel your heart pumping less intensely, try alternating the increase of the angle on the machine with the increasing of the resistance. It will give you a better workout and help you to see results in your leg muscles.

Other machines utilized at the gym, like a treadmill, almost always have this function, as well. Look on the programming screen and find where you can increase the angle; if you are unable to find it, ask the help of a trainer there.

You may notice that your body and leg muscles are much more sore and tired after you have begun an intense hiking or inclined running regimen. This is completely normal, because your body is working harder against the added resistance.

Be sure to stretch after every exercise routine; you do not want to lose the elasticity in your calves, hamstrings, and quads. Also, pay attention to the foods you eat and the amount in which you hydrate yourself; you may feel it necessary to consume more calories or drink more water to support this increase in activity.

Exercising on an incline can dramatically change your body's tone and strength. Find ways to integrate it into your workouts!
