The invention of home exercise machines has made it much easier for people to exercise. The treadmill, elliptical and stationary bike machines have allowed people to avoid the inconvenience of the gym.

In addition, they do not have to face bad weather or horribly drivers. Likewise, they do not have to exercise in front of people who may judge them.

Instead, they can enjoy the comfort of their own home and home entertainment as well as the benefits of exercising. One of the most popular and traditional exercise machines is the treadmill.

The treadmill is a machine that allows people to run without venturing outside of their home. As people develop running skills on this machine, they may realize that they stopped improving after about four to six weeks of exercising.

This stall in improvement is known as the plateau. In order to avoid the plateau, you must change up your routine.

You can change up your routine in several different ways while still exercising in your own home. You can change the settings on your machine to be harder, faster, or longer.

In other words, it is time to make your routine more challenging. Most of the time before you increase your running speed, you need to develop a strong ability to run a long distance at a slow speed.

As a result, when you hit the first plateau you will want to make your workout simply longer. At the next plateau, you may shorten your routine, but run significantly faster, and so on.

If you push yourself to run too fast before you are ready, you could make it much easier for yourself to suffer from injury. Pushing yourself to go faster is intense work that puts a lot of stress on the body.

Be sure to protect yourself from injury by developing a good base first. If running faster becomes your main goal of exercising, there are several things you can do to increase your speed when you are ready for them.

It is interesting and nice to note that many of these exercises also increase your endurance. The first thing you will want to do is incorporate some kind of resistance into your routine.

The most common type of resistance training is weight training. As you resistance train, you will build you leg muscles and you will increase your ability to endure.

In the beginning, it is important to focus on large muscle groups such as the hamstrings and quads. However, you can increase your workout routine as you grow stronger.

Another form of exercise that can increase your ability to run faster and longer is skipping. Skipping workouts require full body exertion, particularly in the legs.

As you skip various distances, your legs will become strong and stronger. It is suggested that you perform a skipping routine of at least 200 yards in the beginning.

Step up exercises can also significantly increase your ability to run faster. To perform a step up exercise, you simply need to grab some weights and a step.

Step up onto the stair with one foot at a time and lifting your knee as high as you can. Swing your arms to help you step up and down.

Then, step down and back up and down. Running up and down the stairs can also greatly increase your ability to run faster.

Another exercise that can improve your speed is basketball sliding. This form of exercise is similar to skipping sideways.

You do not have to bend your knees in this form of skipping. You should perform basketball sliding for at least 100 yards.

Another technique the runners use to increase their speed is that they race against themselves. They will time their workout and how far they ran.

The next time they workout they will compare their new time and distance to the old time and distance. With the desire to run faster, they will push themselves to run faster and faster each time.

It is very important that you stretch after an intense workout. Without stretching you can set up yourself for injury.

By stretching you will also help yourself recover from the workout much faster. This will help you be able to perform your best the next time you run.

Through incorporating these things into your workout, you will increase your speed as a runner significantly. You will be able to be competitive in the races that your participate in, which will be a very rewarding experience.
