When you are on a treadmill you have to make sure that you know how to stay safe. There are a lot of people that do not think about the different safety issues they could possibly run into when they are on a treadmill.
For many people, getting on the machine and running takes little thought and does not involve any thought about safety. You want to make sure that you are taking the time to understand how you are going to stay safe in case you should be put in an adverse situation.
First, you should make sure that your treadmill has the necessary safety settings for your home. Depending on the age of the individuals in your home you are going to need different safety settings.
If you have young children in your home you are going to want to make sure there is some type of mechanism that will prevent the machine from starting when they are playing on it. Often times this will be a key that you have to insert.
When you insert the key the machine will start but no matter what you do without the key the machine will not start. If you decide to go with this system you have to make sure that you keep track of the key.
Not only do you want to make sure that the kids do not get a hold of the key and start to play with the treadmill but you also want to make sure you do not lose it. If you can find a machine with two keys and have them both hidden in your home you may be better off.
You should also make sure that you are not leaving the key in the treadmill. Some people get a machine with this setting because they feel they will use it but then they start to feel that the key is a hassle so they leave it in the machine.
Leaving the key in the machine totally defeats the purpose of having it in the first place. You want to make sure that you are responsible with the key and you utilize the key to ensure your children do not use the machine unsupervised.
Another way to ensure young children are not playing on the machine is to buy a machine that folds in half and locks. There are many different machines that lock into place when they are folded in half and standing upright.
You want to make sure that the machine lock is childproof. If you have older children that you do not want on the machine when you are not home you should make sure that when the treadmill is folded in half there is a key to unlock it.
When the machine is folded in half you will also be able to save a lot of room in the room that it is housed in. Even though you are saving a lot of room when it is folded in half you should make sure the room is adequately large enough for the machine.
Some people shove the machine into a small room because they believe there is no problem with this. Although you may have room to fit the machine in you probably do not have the adequate amount of room around the machine that you need to run safely.
When you are on the machine you should make sure that there is at least one arm's length between you and any wall around you. You should not be able to touch any of the walls around you or you are too close.
When you are that close to walls it can be easy to fall off an hit your head on the wall. You may also fall of and get wedged between the wall and the machine while the belt is still spinning, causing severe burns on your body.
You want to make sure and take the time to prepare your machine to be safely used by your family members. The safer that your machine is the easier it will be to keep it for many years and view it as an investment.
Before you get on the machine you should make sure that you are equipped with the proper footwear. Even if you are just walking on the machine you want to make sure that your feet are protected from the belt.
You can make your treadmill safe. Take the time and effort to invest in this safety and you will be much better off for it.
