Fitness centers are found all around every community. Although they can be highly competitive, their rules are strict - "a must be followed". Getting memberships in one of these centers will allow you the use of all their facilities, but subject to certain terms and conditions. The member is made to understand the different rules and regulations - the house rules that are enforced for the benefit and safety of all members.
When you inquire from a fitness center, you will be informed of the center's own vision - which usually is to prepare the members for fitness, wellness and health. Most fitness centers have the same basic rules and should there be some differences, these could be only on some specific areas. But the basic rules and regulations are standard. These rules pertain to health and safety, proper use of equipments, attire and decorum.
Health and Safety - A pre-condition to membership
Any establishment, even if it is not a fitness center, as long as it is in the service industry, has the prime goal of provision of customer's safety. In a gym, the first safety measure is to find individual fitness to work-out and partake in the gym's program of exercises. In view of this objective, many gyms and fitness centers have their own resident doctors who would examine your physical fitness. In the absence of a resident physician, the center may require you to submit a certification of fitness which can come from a qualified practicing doctor.
The result of the physical check-up is the gauge of the extent of exercises one member is capable of doing. This eliminates health risks. Only when the safety is established can the applying member be given permission to join the fitness club.
Fitness Center amenities and equipments
The first basic rule after being admitted for membership is an orientation on the different amenities a member is entitled to enjoy. A tour and demo on the equipments will be given and the new member is given an initial taste of the different equipments. The member will be indoctrinated on handling and maintenance of equipments inside the gym.
Proper Attire
All gyms have the corresponding attire suitable for workouts. Indecent clothes are prohibited. This may elicit malice. Exposure of sensitive parts of the body may spark untoward comments and offensive remarks. Casual clothes are taboo and any member wearing this can be disallowed entrance, During work-outs, members should wear the proper outfit, rubber shoes and socks.
Proper decorum
All members must show respect and courtesy to all other members. This is one reason why indecent clothes are prohibited. Never bring your friend to the gym to watch - this is very unethical so this is prohibited by the gym management. Neither do they allow children inside the gym premises.
Personal Hygiene
Cleanliness should always be observed. Sweats are natural to come-by, and residual sweats that may fall on the equipments must be wiped. Proper use of the shower is enjoined as a sign of courtesy to other members.
These are the basic house rules which are required by all fitness centers and gyms. Some other establishments may impose additional guidelines. Adherence to these rules and regulations by all members will make the experience in a gym really beneficial.
