There are many different things that you should keep around the house in case disaster strikes. These things will be very helpful in an emergency situation.
Disaster could strike you and your family at any moment. This disaster could mean the worst, or it could mean that you will be able to survive and help others if you are prepared.
One of the most important things you will need to have in order to survive is food storage. Without food storage, including water, you will be hard pressed to survive and at the very least you will suffer tremendously where you could have survived somewhat comfortably.
Your food storage must be properly packaged and designed to last a long time. One of the best types of food you can have in your food storage is freeze dried meals.
Freeze dried meals used to be disgusting and an expensive waste of money. However, many improvements have been made and now the food is delicious.
There are also several available meals and the food contains nutrients that do not dissipate with time. They are also light, easy to pack, and easy to store.
In addition, to food storage there are several things around the house that you will want to store. These things will also be very handy when disaster strikes.
One of these items you will want to make sure you have is salt. Salt is one flavoring that will make everything taste better.
Even if you do not have any other spices, you will be able to make basic ingredients a palatable meal with it. It is one of the best comfort items you will be grateful to have in a survival situation.
Another item you will want to make sure you have is garden seeds. If your survival situation turns out to be a long term thing, you are going to run out of the food that is in your food storage.
You will need another means in which you can get food. It is best not to depend on other people for help as they may not be able to provide it.
Instead, become self dependent by storing garden seeds that you will be able to grow for food when the time comes. This will also be something that you will appreciate tremendously.
Even though you may not think of it right now, you will want to store toilet paper. Toilet paper is simply one of the hygiene niceties you will miss tremendously in a survival scenario.
As you are storing salt, you might as well store other spices as well. Your family will appreciate these spices and the flavorful meals you can provide because of these spices.
Another thing you will want to store is a Dutch oven. Dutch ovens are an excellent alternative to the microwave, oven and stove when those things become unavailable due to electricity shortages.
You will still be able to cook many of the things you are used to cooking with one of these ovens. Besides, it is a great addition to a family campout.
However, if you do not like the idea of a Dutch oven, you may want to spend a little more money and purchase a solar oven. These also work fairly well, but you will want to make sure that you have the correct pots and pans to match.
It is likely during a survival situation that you will need to light a fire. This task will be tremendously easier if you have matches.
You may also want to consider gathering a collection of recipes that your family likes that uses the things you are keeping in your food storage. This will make the transition from favorites to food storage much easier as you will not have make up things as you go.
Several other items that are good to have around include work gloves, knee pads, dust masks, duct tape, baling twine, tie wire, plywood, 2x4s, tarps, saws, axes, a good tool set, lanterns and so forth. If a natural disaster strikes, your home may be damaged.
You will thank yourself when you already have the items to patch up specific areas temporarily until the stores are up and running again. Even if your own home is not damaged, a neighbor's or friend's may be damaged.
You will be able to lend them a hand if this is the case. They will be very grateful that you prepared ahead of time.
Whether or not you prepare ahead of time could spell the destruction or survival of your family. Since the choice is in your hands not, do not make the regretful decision.
