Motion sickness, or travel sickness, is a terrible feeling that leaves you feeling nauseous and not comfortable and occurs when traveling in a boat, car, train, airplane, using a swing or using rides at an amusement park.

It is not unheard of for it to become serious enough that vomiting and cold appear suddenly. Anyone can experience motion sickness but it appears more often in kids who are very young. The symptoms are usually minor but keep in mind that if purging occurs for a long period of time a person can become easily dehydrated and sudden drops in blood pressure are not unheard of.

Motion sickness develops when our senses send messages to each other which conflict. The inner ear is especially effected because it is responsible for keeping everything balanced and you standing steadily on your feet.

There are tiny receptors in all of our joints and across our skin which keep tabs on what parts of the body are moving and where each body part is in relation to the next. Just imagine that you are in the back seat of a car looking at a magazine. Your eyes are firmly fixated on the magazine and is not aware of any motion. If the car speeds up or comes to a sudden stop your inner ear is now sensing something totally different from your eyes. This type of thing gets your body systems all mixed up and can leave you feeling nauseous.

It is not usually to see a doctor where motion sickness is concerned but you should see one if the symptoms are severe or persistent. Certain medication that they prescribe, such as TransdermScop, can really help to control the symptoms and may make your next trip much more enjoyable. Be careful if driving on a prescription because it is likely to cause drowsiness. Certain medicines can be bought over the counter and are also very helpful. These include Dramanine, Bonine and Antivert.

There are also natural ways, to treat the symptoms, that are less harmful to your body. Ginger is excellent for helping to calm the stomach and can be found in capsule form or at the grocery store in a bottle of ginger ale. Mint also does a wonderful job of calming your stomach down with the side effect of helping with your digestion. Certain homeopathic ingredients have also been shown to be helpful. Products with Pulsatilla vulgaris, Kalium phosphate and Cocculus in them help to calm your nerves and make your next trip more bearable.
