There are a lot of people that do not understand how many strides have been made in recent dental technology. If you think that there is not a procedure that can help you with your teeth you may want to do another consultation with your dentist.

Whenever teeth were broken in the past the only way to fix them was fixed bridges or even dentures. Although many people still choose to use these methods there are new ways that you can fix a missing tooth.

First, when you have a tooth knocked out you want to try to keep it alive. You may not have a lost cause if you are able to keep your tooth well enough before you get to the dentist so that the dentist can try to put it back in.

No matter if you were in a fight or if you had a sporting incident you first want to make sure that you find the tooth. The tooth can be re-planted so that it is back to normal as soon as your mouth is able to reaccept it and heal.

The problem with this method is you do not have very much time. You have to make sure that you find the tooth as soon as possible and when you find it you want to grab it by the crown and the enamel portion.

When you grab it by the root you can do a lot of damage to the tooth. There are a lot of people that do not understand how much damage they can do to their tooth when they grab it by the root and if you do this you may make it impossible to replant.

If the tooth that has been knocked out is a baby tooth it should not be replanted. The child will just have to deal with a missing tooth until the adult teeth start to grow in and eventually replace the hole in the child's mouth.

When you pick up your tooth you want to rinse it off if it is dirty. You should not be storing the tooth in water but instead you want to make sure that you are able to store the tooth in cold milk to make sure that it does not die on your way to the dentist.

You should then make an emergency call to your dentist. You need to make sure that you let your dentist know what happened and that you take the time to get to your dentist as soon as you possibly can.

Getting to your dentist within the hour is crucial. When you are going to the dentist you have up to an hour before your chances of a successful replanting start to dramatically decrease and you may not be able to have your tooth put back in.

If you do not have access to milk you should make sure that you are storing it in saline or even in saliva. These are the mediums that will enable your tooth to stay alive and make it possible to put it back into its socket.

When you are not able to get your tooth back into the socket you have to make sure that you understand that you still have options. Even though you cannot have your original tooth in your mouth you can have a replacement tooth put in.

A dental implant would probably be your best option. When you have a dental implant put in you will first have a titanium anchor put into your gums that will anchor the stub to your jaw bone.

When the dentist puts this type of anchor in he will wait for it to set before he puts the rest of the fake tooth in. The tooth that is made for your mouth will be unique and should match the other teeth in your mouth.

It should have the same texture and the same coloration as your other teeth. It should not feel different than your other teeth and you should not be able to feel a difference in that tooth when you run your tongue over your teeth.

An implant may be your best option because it is sturdy. Once the titanium anchor heals to the jaw bone there is not much that will be able to make your tooth budge and it will probably be able to make it through more than your normal teeth can.

When you knock a tooth out make sure that you go about the proper practices so you are able to have a tooth back in your mouth in no time.
