It is recommended that everyone visit the dentist at the very least of once per year. Many dentists suggest that it is healthiest for the teeth if you visit the dentist twice a year.

It is important to go to the dentist for the health of your teeth. Your teeth are very important as they are what you use to eat and smile.

Without them it would be very difficult to eat healthily or to smile without scaring children, babies, and even adults. When you visit the dentist you should expect the hygienist to check for decay, cavities, and so forth as she cleans.

When children make a visit, she will examine whether or the teeth are coming in properly and whether or not other development of the bones is happening correctly. She will also keep an eye out for signs of gum disease, cancer, sores, diabetes, and so forth.

There are several things you should do and prepare for before you to go to the dentist. The first thing you will need to do is write down any questions you have about various parts of your mouth, the procedure, or other oral health care concerns.

It is very easy to forget all of your questions once you see the hygienist pull out all of her tools. In addition, you will want to make sure you collect all of the necessary paperwork to fill out the paperwork for the dentist.

You will need proof of insurance, any medical information that may be relevant, and any dental information that may be relevant as well. Old dental records and x-rays may be helpful if you are receiving follow up treatment from the last examination you received.

In some cases, you old dentist will automatically send these kinds of files to the new one or to the surgeon. However, in other cases, he may simply give them to you and expect you to take them to the new dentist or surgeon.

It is also very important that you act excited if you do not want to scare them. If they become scared for any reason, it may be difficult to get them to sit still and receive the treatment that they need.

By acting excited yourself, you will reassure them that it is alright. In the end, they will receive a sticker or small prize for their bravery when they did not even know that they were being brave.

When you are arrive at the office for a check up and cleaning, there are several things that you should expect. The first part of the process may be x-rays.

X-ray will be taken to show the bone structure of your mouth and how well your teeth either fit or do not fit together. If there is damage to the bone in certain areas, this will show upon the x-ray.

Even cavities can sometimes be detected on the x-ray. The first part of an x-ray process is putting a special film in your mouth.

Then, you will stand still while the x-ray machine does its job. Usually four x-rays are taken so that your whole mouth can be examined.

Print offs of these x-rays will be ready in a matter of minutes. Meanwhile, the hygienist will take you to another room if the x-ray machine is not in the treatment room.

There, you will sit down in the chair and she will begin the cleaning process. The first step is using a mirror and metal instrument to scrape off the plaque and debris you may have missed while brushing your teeth.

These things cause tooth decay so it is very important that they are cleaned off properly once in a while. As this process takes place, a tube may be used to remove excess saliva as it can be difficult to swallow while your mouth is open.

Then, an electric brush and special toothpaste will be used to continue cleaning your teeth. After this process you teeth should feel particularly clean and smooth.

After flossing, she will apply a fluoride treatment to your teeth. Fluoride is a mineral that cam make your teeth stronger and more resistant to cavities.

Usually this is simply a liquid you have to slosh around your mouth. Then, the dentist will come in and inspect any cavities that the hygienist may have come across and your gums.

If you pass this test you are done and can leave. You will have survived your trip to the dentist's office.
