When you think of healthy foods, you may picture tasteless and unappealing choices that leave you cold. However, healthy foods don't have to be bland! What follows is an introduction to four healthy foods that you can include in your diet that are tasty, easy to find at the supermarket, and truly good for you.

Beets
Surprisingly, beets are one of the healthiest choices to include in your diet. These tiny red root vegetables contain folate and betaine, two nutrients that help lower the levels of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is believed to damage arteries and can lead to heart disease. By adding beets to your diet, you reduce the likelihood of developing these problems. Feeding lab mice beets has also been shown to fight cancer.

To get the maximum benefit from beets, it is best to eat them raw. Shred them and soak them in lemon juice and olive oil, then toss them on your salad.

Cinnamon
Most of us only eat cinnamon when it is applied to those tasty rolls covered with sugar. However, not only is this spice delicious, but it is also believed to help control blood sugar and reduce the risk of heart disease. According to USDA research, people with Type Two Diabetes who ingested two grams of cinnamon per day over a six-week period lowered their blood sugar levels and cholesterol. The active ingredients in the spice are known as methylhydroxychalcone polymers, and they can increase your body's ability to metabolize sugar.

The best way to eat it is to sprinkle it on oatmeal, cereal, or even add a bit in your coffee.

Goji Berries
The tiny goji berry has been used by Tibetans for years for its medicinal properties. Research has shown that the berry, about the size of a raisin, has more antioxidant power in it than any other fruit. Scientific studies have also shown that the berry helps reduce the production of insulin, a major risk factor for diabetes patients.

To enjoy these healthful little berries, add them to your yogurt, cereal or oatmeal in the morning for breakfast.

Cabbage
This vegetable is a big hit in Asia and Europe and is on the path to becoming a player on the American food stage. Its most beneficial nutrient, sulforaphane, is believed to lower the risk of cancer development. It does so by fighting against free radicals and increasing the production of enzymes that help curtail cell damage.

To enjoy this tasty delight, eat it shredded and use it as a topping for your sandwiches or burgers. Or, you could put together a nice side salad combined with shredded carrots and apples.
