Reducing cholesterol levels is important if you want to be a person who's healthy, free from heart attacks, and so on. True, there are medications you can take to have lower cholesterol, but, if you wish to decrease cholesterol more naturally and more affordably, rely on this technique: lowering cholesterol through diet. There are actually several foods that lower your cholesterol, and by eating them more often, you can surely have decreased levels of cholesterol.

Here are good examples of the so called low cholesterol foods that you should incorporate in your daily diet:

1. Blueberries - LDL, in layman's terms: bad cholesterol, is effectively decreased by blueberries. This is because blueberries are rich in powerful anti oxidants, specifically the anti-oxidant: Pterostilbene, which has been proven very good in reducing cholesterol levels in a person's body.

2. Onions - to have normal levels of cholesterol, it is also a must that you eat raw onion on a daily basis (half an onion is sufficient), as lowering cholesterol through diet also means eating foods that increase your body's HDL (good cholesterol) levels, which can actually result from eating fresh onions each day.

3. Avocados - an avocado is actually included in the top foods that lower your cholesterol as it does not only decrease bad cholesterol, but also adds to the levels of HDLs in the human body. Avocados are actually rich in mono unsaturated fats that are main components of most low cholesterol foods.

4. Oats - oat bran is also recommended if reducing cholesterol levels (the bad ones) is your goal. Research shows that eating oats regularly can actually give rise to higher HDL levels, specifically more than 10% increase, if you desire lowering cholesterol through diet, do not forget to add some oat bran into your meals.

5. Wine - aside from foods that lower your cholesterol, there are also beverages or drinks that have the same effect. Wine is one of them. Drinking wine once a day can actually increase your body's level of HDL, and also helps protect you from having a heart attack. Remember though that excessive wine drinking is a no-no and can give you the opposite effect (can make you develop heart disease). Sticking to a glass of wine per day is enough.

6. Green Veggies - green, leafy vegetables, are always part of the list of low cholesterol foods. They are good in reducing cholesterol levels since they have anti-oxidants, iron, magnesium, and calcium, which are all effective in thwarting the rise in bad cholesterol levels. Examples of these veggies are: spinach, broccoli, lettuce, etc.

By including foods that lower your cholesterol in your day to day diet, you'll without doubt be able to have healthy levels of cholesterol in your body.
