Your health is an important factor for your life. All the old adages apply: You are what you eat; you get out of life what you put in; every human being is the author of his own health or disease; the first wealth is health; a man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools; early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

Sometimes, we don't even realize or don't pay attention to the detrimental effects of living fast and loose lives. When we are younger, our bodies can accommodate our bad habits. Sooner or later, these habits will catch up to us. Our bodies and our health soon make us pay attention.

If you're one of the millions who are paying for bad habits born of youthful confidence and ignorance, there are some things you can do to turn the tide.
Get a checkup. Getting a physical workup is the first step to assessing the state of your health. Simple checkups can help you and your doctor to predict any potential problems. If there is something that feels out of whack, tell your doctor. It most often is something that will be simple to fix or change, but it could also be a sign of something going horribly wrong.

"An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure."

Run tests. Make sure your checkup includes the proper tests. Depending on your age and lifestyle, you'll want various tests run to eliminate possible problems. Blood tests will check your white blood count, vitamin and hormone levels, and other indicators of potential disease. Other tests such as mammograms and prostate screenings are just a good idea.

If you've truly lived life fast and loose, you might want to get STD testing, Aids testing, and other kinds of testing for contracted diseases. If you've experiences weird symptoms, STD tests can eliminate an otherwise problematic state of living.

Change your habits. Live fast, die young - sounds super cool, but the reality is altogether different. You might live fast, but that doesn't guarantee that you're going to die young or gracefully. Changing habits is tough, but the alternative is tougher.

Mind over matter. Whether you need to change your habits, your diet, or your lifestyle, your mind is a remarkable ally. The mind has been proven to make a difference for your health and your choices. Believe in it.
