If you are interested in a nursing career it is important that you understand what requirements you will need to fill to be a nurse. The more that you know about what you need to do the easier it will be to plan and prepare for the job.
First, to go into nursing school you will need a high school diploma. When you are in high school, if you have the choice, you can start choosing to take science and math classes so that you are better prepared for nursing school.
Sit down and talk with your guidance counselor and ask him or her what courses you should be enrolled in. The more that you learn in high school the easier your entry level classes will be when you are in high school.
If you do not have a guidance counselor that can help you contact a nursing school and ask them to help you decide what classes you need to take. The more that you understand about the classes you have to take now the better off you will be in the long run.
After high school you also have to make sure that you are taking the time to understand what college you are going to understand what you are going to study in college. A bachelor of science in nursing is a great way for many people to start their nursing career.
This is a four year program that many college and universities offer. There are many universities that require you to go through prerequisites before you even apply to get into the program and your grades in the prerequisites will determine whether you get in at all.
When you are looking to be a certified nurse you have to make sure that you understand that the bachelor of nursing is going to give you the best chance of getting into the school. Although the program may be challenging it will be worth it in the end.
The nursing degree is preferred when you are going into military nursing, case management and even public health nursing. Even when you are going into overseas development or forensic nursing you should have the bachelors of nursing.
If you are not able to go straight into a four year program you can always start by getting your associate's degree. This two to three year program is offered at community colleges and junior colleges around the nation.
You will be able to get an associate degree in nursing for an affordable price. This associate degree should serve as a bridge into your bachelor of nursing degree and for many people is a great way to start down this path.
When you get an associate degree in nursing you have to make sure that you continue with your schooling. There is not much you can do in the world of nursing when you just have an associate degree in the subject.
Some people would rather have a hospital-based training program. There are a lot of two to three year hospital nursing programs that will prepare you with hands on training in the hospital to prepare you to get a higher degree.
When you have already gotten a bachelor degree in something else you can be a part of an accelerated program instead of going through the whole degree. This will allow you to get through the degree much quicker.
You can also get a Masters degree in nursing through an accelerated program. You just have to make sure that you understand all that will be required of you so that it does not take more time than you expect it to take.
After you receive your schooling you have to get licensed. This means that you are going to have to get a license in the state that you are planning on working on, so that you can practice as a nurse legally.
You will have to take a license examination from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. These can be stressful tests, but as long as you have taken the time to prepare throughout your schooling you should be fine.
After you have your nursing degree you should be able to find work in virtually every state. There are many nursing shortages across the United States which will provide you a lot of job security.
If you come to find out that you are interested in the profession, make sure you start planning and preparing for the career as soon as possible.
