There are many sports options available for anyone who wishes to learn a new skill set, while having fun in the process. They all vary in intensity and difficulty, and some are more friendly to new players than others.

These options range from contact sports that are played on teams, to solo sports that simply pit the individual against their own stamina and willpower. Each has their pros and cons.

Choosing a sport largely reflects the personality of the individual making the decision. For example, the more introverted person may prefer solo time that allows them to be alone, while more extroverted people may prefer the social interaction that team options may provide.

No matter what decision is made, there will be physical benefit since the mere act of movement associated with the activity will provide a short term benefit tot ht individual when they first undertake the action. Therefore, the rewards associated with participation can be felt immediately, albeit in a small, gradual way.

There a many traits in activities that people actively seek. For those that don't want to dedicate an inordinate amount of time or effort into an activity, accessibility and ease of play are critical aspects.

However, those expecting no commitment or effort will be disappointed, because every option available requires gear and apparel that appropriately maximize the person's efforts, as well as requiring a time investment. This simply reflects the nature of the games, so choosing one from an informed perspective is critical.

The happy compromise seems to be activities that can be easily played, without inordinate time or expense being invested in them. Luckily, there are many casual leagues and team that allow for an enjoyable time while providing a challenge for those involved.

Those that want to benefit from their chosen activity also prioritize the benefits of exercise. Therefore, a sport that offers physical benefit as well as being an enjoyable pastime is a highly desirable combination.

Hockey is an excellent option for those that want a workout that is also an enjoyable time. Hockey increases endurance, strength, and toughness while being a frantic experience that requires players to be moving at all times.

Hockey requires a reasonable time investment in order to play, since most teams, clubs, and groups have regular practices and games that the individual will be required to attend. This time investment can be seen as time set aside for working out, however, making the commitment a bit easier for those who are on a time schedule.

Gear is an absolute necessity for hockey players, in the most non negotiable way possible. While the gear involved in the sport may seem prohibitively expensive, it protects vital areas of the body that would take an unnecessary pummeling otherwise.

There are many skill levels and difficulties available in hockey, based on the skill level of the person involved, as well as how competitive their team or league is. Generally speaking, there is a steep learning curve involved in the activity, because new players must learn to skate and use a stick as well as learning the rules and strategies involved.

The above would actually seem to discourage people from playing the game. However, the benefits found when playing far outweigh the inconveniences and expense once the individual actually starts playing.

Regularly participating in games will improve the user's leg strength in many ways, both from the exertion of skating and the unusual ways that the skates actually work the muscle groups. Those that dash around the ice will find that it benefits their quads and thighs, because of the sheer explosive power required to sprint across the ice when pursing the other team.

Players will also notice that the physical effort involved in playing improves their endurance quickly, because players not only are expected to play for extended periods of time, but are also weighed down by protective padding. This forces the muscles to adapt and grow, physically strengthening the person.

The cardiovascular system will improve itself over time this way, because the body also improves the efficiency of the lungs to adapt itself to the expected stimulus. Endurance will improve quickly, as there is little other choice available.

Playing hockey combines the benefits of exercise with the thrill of competition and the fun of playing a sport. It is an excellent option for anyone wanting to become more fit while having an intense experience to accompany it.
