Choosing the right pair of glasses for a child can be very challenging and difficult. Not only do you have to worry about whether or not the glasses will last longer than a day, but you will have to worry about whether or not your child will like them enough to wear them.

It is very important that you child wears their glasses according to prescription. Otherwise, their eyesight could potential get worse as they strain their eyes to see.

There are several things that you will have to think about as a parent. The first thing you will need to make sure the glasses have is the right kind of lens thickness.

The lens thickness should follow the prescription that the eye doctor gave to your child. If the glasses do not help your child to see properly, then they are not worth getting.

Even if the only glasses that will work are completely out of style and are made out of all the kinds of materials you do not like, you should purchase those ones instead of the ones that are aesthetically pleasing.

Talk to the eye doctor about what you should specifically look for in lens. He or she can also give you recommendations on what kind of frames you should look for.

Of course, after you have addressed the functional aspect of the glasses you choose, you must look at the fashion aspect. Hopefully your child will wear these for years to come.

You should examine the upcoming fashions and try to select glasses that fit in with those. Most children are teased at some point about their glasses.

It will help reduce the teasing if you choose something that is at least fashionable in the upcoming years. Of course, you will also want to help your child select frames that are appropriate and affordable.

Even if you do not like the style your child chooses and even if the frames are stylish, it is very important to remember that you do not have to wear the glasses. Your child does and you want to make sure that he or she wants to wear them.

Another question you will have to address about the frames is whether or not you want plastic or metal. You will want to know that boys' frames are the ones with double bridges.

Girls do not wear double bridged glasses, but single bridged ones. However, it is permissible fashion-wise for boys to wear single bridged glasses.

Some children like to look grown up and they may choose glasses that look exactly like yours or your spouse's. For this reason, some manufacturers have even created a children's line that feature adult styles.

Other children will be attracted to fun colors, patterns, engravings and so forth. In the past, plastic was the ideal choice for a parent selecting frames for his or her child.

Plastic tended to be more durable and lighter in weight as well as less expensive. However, metal frames are not equal to plastic in all of these things.

Another important aspect of glasses is that they fit the bridge of your child's nose properly. If the glasses do not fit properly, they will be very uncomfortable and your child will not wear them.

Metal frames have adjustable nose pads so that they can properly fit on a variety of different noses. Plastic frames do not have this adjustable feature.

Have your child try on the glasses until he or she finds one that is comfortable and which he or she likes the look of. As you look at the glasses, check to see if there are any gaps between the nose and the nose pads.

If there are, the glasses need to be adjusted. However, even if the pads rest properly, they may not be comfortable to your child.

These pads will also help the glasses stay on in the right place. Some children let their glasses slide down and they look over the top of them.

In addition, the glasses should have the right temple style in order to make sure that the glasses stay on supported on the ears. These will determine how often your child's glasses will fall off.

If your child is really little, you may want to purchase a strap to tie the glasses onto their face so they do not fall off. Of course, as the one paying for the glasses, you will want to make sure that they have a warranty.

They are bound to fall and break sometime and you will not want to dish out about couple hundred dollars to purchase new glasses. It is also a good idea to invest in a backup pair incase the first pair breaks.
