Selecting a fun sport that also provides an exercise benefit is not a difficult exercise. There are many options available that provide an excellent workout while being a pleasant activity at the same time.

Picking one out of the pack is sometimes reflexive, because the individual selecting their sport has had pleasant interactions with a certain game or they admire the people who play it. Conversely, some people have a preference based on the unusual nature of the activity and how they can potentially find friendship and fulfillment by pursuing something different.

For these people, selecting lacrosse is an interesting option, because it combines fast paced teamwork and game play with a unique premise that is not widely known or followed in the mainstream consciousness. It also is fairly tactical game, where brute force and speed are important, but tactics and positioning can just as easily win a round for the better trained team.

Lacrosse is played by having two opposing teams struggle and grapple in order to hurl a ball into a net, using netted stick to achieve this goal. Physical contact is permitted, making lacrosse a physical option that rewards smart hits and keeping a cool head.

The sport is one of the oldest ones in the United States, dating back to an Iroquois tradition that far preceded colonial influence. The game was picked up by colonial settlers and slowly formalized with a distinctive rule set and codes of play throughout the centuries, leaving us with the current model we have today.

In the current variant, people on both teams are provided with protective helmets and basic optional padding, and little else. Sticks are made of lightweight allows, and are standardized for competitive play.

The rules are enforced by referees, instead of being subject to honor rules, and match length is predetermined. Physical contact is common and is an integral part if okay, but is regulated so that the spirit of the game is kept in focus instead of dissolving into fights.

Strategy and positioning are important factors in determining which team will be victorious. Better coordinated teams are able to overcome all else if they have good communication and position, requiring each player to know the role that is expected of them, as well as realizing their strengths and weaknesses.

There are many different levels of competition at which lacrosse is played. For the competitive, there are many teams and leagues that exist, usually requiring a bit of searching in order to find.

These leagues provide teams and teammates in order for individuals to match up and play opposing teams. In some, there is an exhibition play option, while other are more bracketed toward tournament results.

For the more casual people who want to play lacrosse, all which is required is sticks, a ball, and some friends to enjoy the experience with. Not many people are need for a casual match, and most public parks offer spaces that are appropriate to the space requirements and parameters.

One of the basic human needs that can be filled by regular lacrosse matches is a social one. Since the only way to have a match is by having other people participate, the sport is an innately social one that requires communication and team work will build bonds with the other player.

Indeed, it is the social factor that draws many people in, because they want to have fun in a group. Doing so fills a social need, provides an exercise benefit, and offers fun to those who participate.

Lacrosse is a good workout alternative, because if the way it builds endurance and strength simultaneously, because of the constant sprinting that is required from participants, as well as the physical exertion needed to overpower opponents. Simply by virtue of participating, people may begin to notice quick positive results happening, because the body is trying to match its capabilities to future tests of strain.

Lacrosse is an excellent option that combines fast pace and physicality with a fun dynamic and social aspect that is a reward unto itself, while simultaneously providing an excellent fitness regimen that improves many muscle groups. Once the peculiarities of the sport are understood, it becomes a fun workout, as well as an excellent pastime.
