In recent times, more and more people are becoming aware of their health. Due to the rising number of health complications, many individuals have decided to change the way they live their lives so that they do not fall victim to these ailments. For a body to function at its optimum level, it has to receive the right kind of fuel. That is why healthy foods are becoming a sort after phenomenon. One must avoid eating foods that do not put in value to their body. Health foods can be grouped into four major calories.

Proteins -These nutrients are found in certain foods and they are important for growth and repair of tissues in the body that are damaged. They are bodybuilding in nature. These nutrients are found primarily in animal products like meat and in pulses like beans. These foods are to be taken in moderation because they are not easily digested. It's wise however to avoid some proteins that are notorious for having high cholesterol levels. These include things like red meat and chicken skin. Fish and lean meats are good substitutes for these. Vegetarians have an easier time getting their dose of proteins.

Carbohydrates - These are the foods like grains, pasta, rice, wheat, potatoes and cassavas that supply the body with the energy that it needs to function properly. Best sources of carbohydrates include whole grain foods as opposed to refined; these are foods like whole wheat bread, brown rice, and foods that have not been refined.

Vitamins -Vitamins are vital because they protect the body from infections. They are mostly obtained from vegetables and fresh fruits. The recommended intake of fruit is up to 5 servings daily. These are the food that best aid in the weight loss process. This is because fruits give you energy and make you full so you do not crave other foods. There are those who opt to take vitamin supplements but these are not as effective as the real thing because they lack the natural vitamin. Cooking vitamins may destroy their nutrient value.

Fiber - Fibers are used to aid digestion and prevent bloating. A good source of fiber is cabbages. Fiber gives a filling effect and one is full even after having a small portion. It is recommended that one consumes foods that are of nutritional value to the body. Fiber is excellent for preventing constipations and may reduce the risks of colon cancer. So every time you sit down to have a meal, it is important to think about the nutritional value of that meal.
