During our childhood we are all educated about the importance of maintaining good dental hygine. We were educated on how to brush our teeth properly and were guided into making it a habit three times a day and were also told the importance of flossing. This is the foundation of good oral hygiene so that we do not, as adults, have a problem with our permanent set of teeth. It is perhaps because of the importance of having a good set of permanent teeth that the Almighty provides us with a set of practice teeth when we are children.

Dental hygiene is vital to having a good set of teeth through our life. It also ensures a charming smile as well. However, despite the obvious drawbacks of not having good dental hygine practices a lot of people do not practice this important part of daily grooming.

Many people do not take cleaning of their mouth, gums, tongue and teeth seriously. Some people go the extremes to patronize many oral products that do not really work the way they are professed to. Simple oral cleaning on a daily basis, formed into a robotic exercise is enough to ensure a good, healthy set of teeth for the life of the person. However, a lot of us end up at the dentist to have rotten teeth extracted when they could have served us for the whole of our life.

Keeping a clean set of teeth is important for overall health. Digestion begins in the mouth and is ensured by a good set of teeth that have the primary digestion duty of grinding the food making it easier for the system to digest completely. We are taught to chew our food 32 times before swallowing. There is a reason for this. Imagine if we a re missing a few teeth, especially our grinders, what the result of this chewing action would be.

Not keeping a clean mouth will have all sorts of acids and bacteria attacking the enamel of our teeth and these will finally destroy this protective covering of the teeth. Finally the teeth will develop cavities and finally the tooth will become either so painful that it will have to be extracted or it will fall out on its own.

In the end the tooth will not be of much use to the digestive process besides causing excruciating pain to the person as well.

Bad dentures not only have a bad effect on the health of the person it also causes bad breath and prevents the person from socializing too. When someone suffers from bad breath there will come a time when it will become obvious by people stepping back a few feet when talking or even completely avoiding the one with bad breath.

So, in order to practice good dental hygine it is important to see a dentist at least once in 6 months and tale good care of ones teeth like flossing once a day, rinsing our mouth after meals and brushing twice a day.
