The main bacterium that causes UTI is the Escherichia coli or E.Coli. This bacteria travels to the urethra going to the bladder and can sometimes reach the kidneys, causing kidney damage. Other sexually transmitted diseases like Chlamydia and trichomoniasis can also cause UTI.

The factors predisposing the onset of UTI includes poor hygiene, weak immune system, poor diet, damaged urethra during childbirth, and even surgery. People who have just engaged in sexual activities can also trigger UTI. This is often called honeymoon cystitis.

People with urinary tract infection experience symptoms such as having a burning sensation during urination, flank pain or pain on the side part of the body, fevers and chills, and foul urine odor.

Among the most bothersome symptoms experienced by a lot of people having UTI is having foul smelling urine. Urine odor is related to the concentration and the volume of the chemicals being excreted by our kidney.

Generally, urine doesn't have a foul and strong odor, however, if you are always dehydrated, the urine becomes concentrated, thus having a strong smell like ammonia.

Medications and food can also affect urine odor such as vitamins and asparagus. During the onset of urinary tract infection, one can experience having a foul urine odor.

This is due to the bacteria inside the urinary system. Urine can have different kinds of smell, but a musky smelling urine is an indication of a UTI.

The list of causes of Urine odor (Urine smell) includes:

* Vitamin B6 supplements
* Asparagus - may turn urine green color with odor.
* Diabetes

You have to tell your doctor about this so you will be guided accordingly. However, doctors will not test your urine for the odor, but for the presence of bacteria.

When your doctor has confirmed that you have a urinary tract infection, you will be given the prescribed medication, usually antibiotics and other medications to treat the other symptoms.

There are times when the symptoms go away, yet leaving the bacteria spreading through the kidney. Take note of a lower back pain, as it can be a sign of a serious kidney infection.

Just like any disease in this world, prevention is better than cure. It is quite unpleasant and disturbing to have UTI.

So, if you do not want to experience it, you have to do some preventive measures. Hygiene is very important, you have to maintain a good hygiene to avoid having UTI.
