As people age, their false teeth do not change, but their mouths do. If you have false teeth, they should fit properly and you should be wearing them.

Proper oral care and regular dental visits are important factors for keeping your mouth healthy and your dentures in good condition. With age, the gum ridges in the mouth can shrink, which causes false teeth to become loose instead of snug.

The bones can also shrink, which can cause the jaw bones not to line up properly. Loose implants can cause sore spots in your mouth as well as stomach problems from not being able to chew food for proper digestion.

Looses dentils may also cause your dentures to become loose, causing them to click together when talking or eating, slip off the arch during activity, or even fall out of your mouth. A loose set of dentils could also cause changes in your facial features.

A re-align is a procedure that reshapes the implant to your dental arch by adding more acrylic material to the implant. If your false teeth are in a drawer because they just do not feel right, they are loose, or they make sore spots in your mouth, you should see a dentist to have them evaluated and possibly adjusted, relined, or remade.

If your implants are considerably worn out, talk to your dentist about having a new set made. It is also important to continue with regular visits to ensure that your dentils are fitting properly.

Your dentist can also examine you mouth for any signs of oral cancer or gum disease. They can also tell you how often you need to come in for check-ups to ensure good oral health.

You should brush your false dentils every day with a soft bristled toothbrush to remove food and plaque. The same goes for your gums and your tongue.

When you are not wearing your false teeth, they should always be kept in cold water or in a special solution recommended by your dentist. When a dentist repairs or adjusts implants, they use tools and materials that are made specifically for dentures.

Over-the-counter products usually contain chemicals that may actually harm your implants and cause greater damage. Only your dentist should adjust or repair your false teeth because of this.

With proper care and regular dental visits, your false teeth should fit well and stay in good condition for a long time. Your dentist will let you know if and when they need to be replaced.

Your dentist will recommend implants as an option for replacing missing or if the current state of your natural dentils is beyond restoration. There are two main types of implants that are used.

The difference is specific to the number of natural dentils that are able to be restored and keep in the mouth. Complete dentures are used when no remaining dentils are in the upper or lower dental arch.

They are designed to replace all the dentils in the dental arch. The different types of complete implants include over-denture, immediate dentures, and conventional false teeth.

Partial implants are used when one or more missing dentils are in either the upper or lower dental arch. Partial dentures use either metal or ceramic clasps to anchor onto the remaining teeth for stability.

Dentures that are newly fabricated or have been re-aligned will require adjustments made by the dentist. This is necessary to relieve any pressure points on the gum tissue that may be causing pain or discomfort, smooth any rough spots, and at times allow for the proper fit.

These adjustments are very common and follow-up appointments should be scheduled frequently to ensure your implants give you the optimum fit and comfort. If you are unsure if false dentils are right for your situation, make an appointment to discuss the treatment options that are right for you.

If you believe dentures are right for you, your dentist may decide to refer you to a prosthodontist or denturist. A prosthodontist is a dentist that specializes in the replacement of missing teeth, and a denturist is a licensed professional that takes the necessary steps in order to fabricate customized dentures.
