With all of the feasts and celebrations that take place during the holidays, not to mention the lack of exercise due to chilly temperatures and busy schedules, it is hard to stay at your optimal weight. This is a time of year to enjoy being with the ones you love and spending time relaxing and celebrating.

However, just because you are on vacation does not mean you need to take one from your fitness routine. Exercise should be performed just as much during times of winter celebration, maybe even more, because of the extra treats and large meals you are likely partaking of.

Finding the time to work out during this period is definitely not an easy task; there are so many things to be planned and events to attend that you may feel lost trying to fit in anything extra. The benefits of maintaining a good exercise plan will be great.

Cold and flu season occurs during the winter months, and you may be exposed to all kinds of germs and bacteria that can cause you to become sick. If your immune system is not strong, you may find the symptoms to be worse or have a harder time fighting off sickness.

Exercise can help strengthen your body and your immune system; when you are taking part in healthy habits, like working out and eating nutritiously, you are likely to be stronger and able to fight off illness. Therefore, it is essential to keep up with your cardio and strength training during the holidays.

No one wants to feel under the weather when there are parties to attend and events to host. Eating healthfully, getting lots of vitamins and nutrients, and exercising can possibly help you to avoid the cold and flu.

If you fear having enough time to work out, there are ways that you can get your body moving and break a sweat without having to hit the gym or the treadmill. While you are out getting your present shopping accomplished, make a schedule and a plan of which stores you will visit.

That way, you can speed walk around the mall or shopping center and increase your heart rate. Not only will you be able to do all that you need to in less time, but you will be able to both burn calories and purchase gifts at the same time.

If you plan on doing this, make sure that you have a list made out beforehand, so that you do not forget necessary items or rush too much. Find others that would like to come with you; your list of places to go will be longer and you will be able to walk around for a longer period.

When you are out, make sure to take the stairs, as opposed to the elevator, and park as far away in the parking lot as you can; it will give you more of an opportunity to exercise and work your legs. The quicker you shop and get things done, the more time you will have for extracurricular activities, like running or lifting weights.

You could also save time by shopping online and having items shipped to you; doing this will prevent you from even having to visit the store! This means that there may be extra space in your schedule for a great and intensive workout.

Try and make the festivities or traditions you perform with your family activities where you can move around and be active. If you love to look at Christmas lights, do so downtown, where you can walk to all of the different sites you wish to see.

You could even go for a walk or bike ride around your neighborhood, if you live in a place with a mild climate. You could also take your family out for a day of winter sports and fun.

Hit the slopes skiing, snowboarding, or sledding in the mountains; you will be burning calories while also enjoying yourselves. There are still a number of activities that you can participate in, even during freezing temperatures.

One key thing to remember when you are exercising outdoors is to always dress appropriately and cover your hands, feet, and head adequately. Doing so will ensure that you stay safe and warm during your physically fitness.
