There are many forms of plantar fasciitis treatment available that will reduce its effect on the person's daily life. The treatments can be either conservative or invasive, depending on the damage and pain caused by the disorder. Luckily, most sufferers will only require conservative plantar fasciitis treatment, thus eliminating the need for surgery or other advanced procedures.

Home care is certainly the most common way to deal with the pain. This might include lifestyle changes, massage, stretching, and over-the-counter medications. Although these methods are more effective when the disorder is in its beginning stages, they will often reduce pain and even cure the patient. When utilizing these therapies, consistent application and diligence are the most important factors in the time required for recovery.

As inflammation can be increased through activity, a change of daily habits will reduce the severity of the illness. Many common exercises, including running and walking, have been known to cause the ailment or simply worsen it. A patient should therefore switch to activities such as swimming or bike riding that do not require their placing weight on their feet. After a period of time, the symptoms will lessen and the person will gradually be able to resume their normal lifestyle.

Other easy methods to deal with plantar fasciitis are effective and do not require medical experience. As the plantar ligament tightens during sleep, massage in the mornings and evenings will relax the muscles and reduce the associated pain. In addition, the application of ice helps when swelling and inflammation are present. Over-the-counter medications, such as Ibuprofen, can also be used for symptom management. As with any disorder, plantar fasciitis treatment should be based on the cause of the disorder as well as the positive response of the individual.

If these more common methods do not provide relief, orthotics can be used to relieve the person's suffering. Wearing pads in both shoes provides needed support during moderate activity. Heel pads of at least one-half to one inch thick may become part of any treatment regimen. They help, but most likely will not cure on their own.

While the disorder should be dealt with as soon as symptoms appear, plantar fasciitis treatment does not have to be complicated or costly. For patients that desire less invasive treatments, changes in habits and other home care can alleviate the problems caused by the illness. Every person has varying degrees of pain, however, and will have a different response to these moderate means to recovery.
