There are many children these days who have Down's Syndrome. A lot of times, there are many parents who may not really know what it really is or what caused this condition. In addition to not doing this condition, many of them also don't know what it can brings to children like possible symptoms.
Down's Syndrome is a caused by altered genetic makeup. The known genetic makeup of a person should only have a pairs of chromosome as a regular makeup. Some babies however would develop having trisomy or having an extra chromosome instead of just two. This condition however affects babies and causes various physical symptoms and complications. Hypothyroidism
This is one of the common complications can be found among children with DS. Looking closely, many of them may not be that fit and have larger body built. This is because their metabolism is greatly affected by this thyroid condition. Lowered thyroid production can be caused by the attack on the thyroid glands due to weak immune system.
Imperforated anus
Anus is the opening connected to the anal canal and large intestines where stools pass for excretion. However, DS may cause a child to not have this opening or imperforated anus. The problem with this condition is there will be no place for the stools to be flushed out of the body. To solve this problem, physicians may make an opening on their belly and connect the large intestines for feces passage. Hence, surgery is the main solution to solve this condition.
Infertility
There is an increased infertility rates among people with DS. For women, they may have problem with difficult labor and miscarriage. They also have lowered fertility latest so there is a less chance for them to get pregnant in the process. Males on the other hand have problems in producing spermatogenesis in their reproductive system. These sperm cells are also infertile and may have defects like lacking some parts or totally not moving.
Slowed motor skills
Compared to regular children, these kids with DS are considered to have slowed motor skills than the usual so they may not be as active as them. But even if they have slowed physical activity, they still play with other kids and still socialize especially with them after making friends.
In conclusion, Down's Syndrome may have lots of complications. The good news is latest technology makes it possible for parents to be ready with these conditions and do what they can do for their kids if they have DS. Several procedures may be done with the help of their physician and get the best help their kids can get at this a young age.
