Although it is true that obesity is a serious health issue in modern societies, there is a group of people that has gone almost unnoticed. These are the people who find it difficult to put on weight on their thin body frame. So this weight gain article is written for this group of people commonly referred to as the ectomorphs or hardgainers.

Although the concept of gaining weight is very simple but for the hardgainers to make it happen can be a very daunting task because of their natural genetic predisposition not to retain too much fat or muscle because of their inherent high metabolic rate. The good news is that hardgainers can and do gain weight if enough effort and knowledge is put into it. Yes, thin people can become hunks!

The key to gaining weight is to consume more calories than your body uses for energy such as in your daily activities. Sure, that is just plain common sense but it is still worth repeating and you will see why as you read along.

There is a certain number of calories that you need to consume each day in order for you to maintain your present weight. If you eat fewer calories than this caloric maintenance level, you will lose weight. So for people who find it hard to gain weight, you should consume more calories than you need for maintenance so that you can gain weight.

Therefore if you are not gaining any weight at all, you are not consuming calories over your maintenance level. Yes, it is as simple as that.

If you are eating 500 more calories over your maintenance level everyday, you should be putting on about a pound per week because one pound of body fat is about 3500 calories. Oh, you have been stuffing your face blue with foods? Well, your calories need not necessary come from food alone, it can come from other sources such as sugary drinks, snacks and weight gain supplements.

The problem is that if you put on weight just by consuming more calories, you will be putting on body fat. So this is not very healthy and besides, putting on fat isn't very appealing in the looks department.

So, to complement your weight gain pursuit, you should start a weight training program. Choose a program that is designed to build muscles all over your body so that you can look better and be healthier. Engage a professional personal trainer to help you if you have the budget.

You are thin, remember? Won't you look much hunkier if you put on muscle weight instead of just body fat? In fact, you are now in a fortunate position in relation to obese people who are training to build muscles.

Fat people must lose much of their body fat in order for their hard earned muscles to be gloriously seen. On the other hand, because of your low fat level, you can see improvements very quickly and do not need the arduous task of losing fat to see your muscle tone and definitions.

Furthermore, muscle is heavier that fat. So when you put on muscles on your frame, you are getting heavier at the same time and that is your objective, isn't it? So the secret to gaining weight to become a hunk is to consume more calories over your daily maintenance level and to build muscles.
