Along with the winter months comes a slew of sicknesses; usually, colder temperatures and stress from the holiday season aid individuals in developing a weaker immune system. When colds and the flu start coming around, it can be almost impossible to avoid being affected by them.

Some of the illnesses that people come down with are not contagious, but those that are can wreak havoc. Often, it is difficult for those sharing the same household or workplace to bypass spreading germs and bacteria that cause these sicknesses.

Though not getting sick may be very unlikely for some, there are definitely ways that one can boost their immune system and try their hardest to stay away from cold and flu germs. Sanitation and cleanliness are two things that will offer defense against illness.

One should always be sure to wash their hands frequently and keep them away from their mouths, but this is especially important when sickness is going around. Try to wash your hands with soap and warm water frequently throughout the day.

You could also carry around some kind of antibacterial lotion or gel. At work, keep wipes near your desk so that you can wipe off your keyboard, mouse, phone, or any other objects that someone else may have touched or used.

When you have sick family members at home, disinfect common areas like the kitchen, bathrooms, and living room. Doing so may save others from coming down with the illness, as well.

The closer you pay attention to cleanliness and keeping things sanitary, the easier it should be to avoid the spread of bacteria. Though this will most definitely guard you, sometimes it is not enough.

An increase of stress, lack of sleep, and colder temperatures during the winter months cause most individuals to have a weakened immune system and a likelihood of succumbing to ailments. Protecting yourself may involve strengthen your body's immune system and its ability to fight off any germs or bacteria that try to infect you.

Taking a multivitamin is always a good idea if you are hoping to guard yourself; very often, humans do not get the nutrients and nutrition that they need from the foods they eat. This is especially true for those who do not eat well-balanced diets or fruits and vegetables.

A vitamin, especially one with Vitamin C and antioxidants in it, should help to boost your system and give you a "suit of armor" against germs and viruses. Eating nutritiously will always be important in increasing health.

Usually, vitamins are better absorbed through the foods you eat; it is best to focus on meals that are full of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains and lean protein. Limit the amount of saturated fats that you take into your body.

These will reduce the amount of energy that you have and make you feel sluggish and worn down. Sugars will do the same; they offer an initial boost of energy that quickly results in a crash, usually leaving you tired and unable to focus with a clear head.

If you are afraid of coming down with contagious ailments that have been going around your workplace or present in your home, make sure to load your body with water. Drinking at least sixty-four ounces, or eight glasses, each day should do the trick.

Water will allow your body to flush out impurities and cleanse itself. It is also necessary for the proper functioning of organs and systems.

Those that want to increase the strength of their immune system should try to get a healthy dose of exercise, as well. Just because winter has come does not mean that you have less of a reason to work out and get the proper amount of cardio and weight training.

Exercise is always beneficial in strengthening your body and naturally increasing energy; it will give you added power against viruses. Clock in at least thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise each day, whether you are able to do so outdoors or inside on fitness equipment.

You can also make use of classes at your local gym that focus on increasing heart rate and strengthening the body. If you know others that are sick, stay away from them as much as possible, especially when they have a fever and are the most contagious.

Avoiding sickness is simple as long as you take care of yourself and keep proper sanitation habits. Doing so should protect you against cold and flu all winter long!
