Your basic oral health needs, such as a bi-annual check-up, should be taken care of by a dentist or DDS. They are licensed to take care of all basic needs like removing cavities, cleaning teeth, and screening for oral cancer and gum disease.

You should visit your family dentist at least twice a year, and in between if the need arises. If you have pain in your dentils when you eat, talk, or just in general, you should make an appointment so the dentist can assess your problems.

If you or your child has molars growing in you should see a dentist to make sure they are coming in properly and not impacting your other dentils. In most cases, there is plenty of room for the twelve-year molars, but wisdom teeth are a whole other story.

Your family dentist can determine if you need to have any dentils removed, including any of the molars that come in during the teen years. Your dentist is qualified to remove any molars or wisdom teeth if the need arises.

They can also remove cavities and put in fillers. This requires them to drill into the tooth to the root to remove all rotted areas.

After they remove all rotten areas, they fill the hole with a special filling that should last you several decades. They can also put in bridges and fit your for dentures.

This is more important when you are older in age, or if you have oral problems due to gum disease, oral cancer, or tobacco use. Any of these situations can cause your teeth to fall out, leaving you with gaps throughout your dentil set.

The dentist will assess the damage that has been done and will determine whether you need, a bridge, false dentils, or a full set of dentures. In some cases, so many teeth have fallen out that they may recommend pulling out the remaining few and just giving you a full set of false teeth.

This would be much easier than trying to place bridges between the few dentils that are left in the gum line. They also screen you for gum disease and oral cancer.

These are detected through x-ray scans that should be performed during every appointment you go to. It is a simple picture they take and they doctor can look at that and determine the health of your oral cavity.

If they see a problem they can discuss several options with you. In most cases, they will refer to you to a specialist you can offer you a set of treatments that would be best for your own unique situation.

The dentist is most commonly used for a bi-annual cleaning. This is when they scrape your teeth of any plaque and buildup, and give your mouth a thorough cleaning.

This is very important because their office has tools that most people do not have in their home, with clean away much more than a toothbrush and floss ever could. It is important to have regular check-ups to ensure that your oral health is where it should be.

If you have crooked teeth, you will need to see an orthodontist; which is a doctor who specializes in correcting misaligned dentils. In most cases the correction is for aesthetic purposes.

People like the look and feel of straight dentils, so they will suffer through two years of metal braces for a lifetime of picture perfect smiles. There are more reasons than just looking good to get braces put on however.

Sometimes, an individual's teeth are impacted in a way that is painful for them. Sometimes the pain is constant, and in other situations it just hurts when the individual is chewing or talking.

This can be very frustrating, and properly aligning the dentils with braces could alleviate the pain. There are also situations where misaligned teeth have affected speech patterns.

This can be detrimental both socially and professionally for an individual. Getting braces put on could help fix a speech impediment if the misaligned dentils are the cause of the impediment.
