Making sure that your baggage is neat, organized, and prepared will help you speed up the process at public airports. Increased safety measures have required more thorough inspections of passengers and their carry-on items; which equates to more time in lines.
Though they are time consuming, they are meant to protect passengers so it is something everyone should willingly participate in for both their own safety and that of other passengers. To make the process easier for all involved, you should know the rules and regulations, and pack in a way that makes the process more efficient.
With the economy on the down slope, many people have started packing everything they need into a carry-on so they do not have to pay the fee for checked luggage. Because of this, many airlines have even taken the added measure of requiring passengers to pay a fee for any carry-on items they bring onto the plane.
Most public airlines allow their passengers to also have another small item in addition to their carry-on bag. This may be a backpack, purse, laptop, or briefcase.
The only drawback to this plan is the fact that everything you take onto the plane has to be x-rayed and/or opened to reveal the contents. You also have to make sure that any liquids or gels are in bottles that are three ounces or less.
This means that you have to prepare beforehand and take these stipulations into consideration while packing. For example, if you pack contact solution it must be in a small bottle that is no more than three ounces.
This rule has been implemented because of the fear of explosives being in large quantities on a plane full of people. To accommodate these regulations, you should purchase only approved travel products for your trip.
Things like toothpaste. shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hairspray, and shaving gel are sold in special sized that are approved for public travel. You can also buy small, three ounce containers at the store and pour what you use at home into them.
That way if the specific product you use does not come in the mini-version, you can just put it in a smaller container. If this is not an option, you may just have to put it in your luggage and check your bags.
The day before your flight, you should take the time to go through your bags and make sure they are organized and have only things that will pass inspection. You should not overstuff your bag in a way where it barely closes.
If security does have to open up your bags, you do not want it all to expand and have to take several minutes to re-pack it in a way so everything fits again. This will just be a hassle for your, the security guard, and the people in line behind you.
Make sure you place your flight confirmation paperwork, identification, and anything else that you might need in a separate pocket that is easily accessible. This allows you to grab it easily while you are in line for security or boarding the plane.
If that information is not easily accessible, you run the risk of being that annoying person in line who is taking forever to find their stuff and is making everyone else wait. This is extremely inconsiderate for people who may be running late for their flight or have children with them.
Make sure that you label all of your things with your name and contact information just in case it gets lost in the shuffle. If there is some kind of mix up, you want to have some chance of recovering your items.
Some people think that the whole public airport scene is just too much of a hassle, especially when they are traveling in large groups. Instead, they opt to rent a private charter jet so they eliminate bag searches, lines, lost luggage, and the headache of a crowded airport.
