There are many studies that have been done recently that highlight the negative effects that stress can have on an individual's life. Taking the time to try your best to eradicate stress from your life may help you have a healthier and more enjoyable life.

Stress is a survival mechanism that is natural in human beings. Originally, when humans were confronted with a stressful situation a surge of adrenaline would pump through the body enabling the human to stay alive.

The stressful situations have dramatically changed since our ancestors were walking the earth. Today, instead of fighting or fleeing to protect our life and stay alive we may feel stress for a variety of reasons.

The continual state of stress is very hard on the heart and can be hard on the rest of your central nervous system. Taking the time to avoid stress can be hard at first but may be well worth it in the long run.

First, you may want to take the time to understand your purpose. Understand what is most important to you, what your major goals are in life, what your religious views are and this may help you focus your time and energy on things that matter the most.

There are many different distractions that may call for your attention throughout the day. If you have a purpose and you understand what you want out of each day you may be able to avoid many of the stressors that you are confronted with.

Second, you want to make sure that you are selective with the tasks that you choose to take on. This is not to say that you should sit at home in a state of boredom each day to avoid stress, but you want to make sure you are not taking on too much.

When you are working to avoid stress you also have to make sure that you know how to say no to the activities that are not going to help you work towards those main goals. Understanding your priorities and sticking to them is very important.

This can be difficult at first, especially if you are used to saying yes to everything. Slowly work on your ability to respectfully decline so that you are not busying yourself with problems and activities that are only distractions.

Third, you want to make sure that you are taking the time to give yourself some alone time. There are a lot of people that do not understand how effective some alone time can be when they are minimizing their stress.

As you sit in the quiet you want to focus on yourself. Meditating or even praying can be a very effective and beneficial way to minimize all of the stress that you experience in your day to day life.

There are a lot of people that do not understand how to take the time to find their quiet time. Schedule an appointment with yourself and make sure that you treat the appointment as a high priority.

When you make this appointment with yourself a priority you will be more likely to keep it. Turning off your computer and your cell phone may enable you to focus on yourself easier than you would have been able to with the electronics on.

Fourth, you should be getting enough sleep. Our society often sends the message that it values the individuals that are able to go all day and not get tired and not get a lot of sleep each night of the week.

You will be much better equipped to deal with stressors if your brain and your body have enough sleep. Finding your optimal amount of sleep may take some time but will be well worth it in the long run.

Fifth, taking the time to exercise can help you diminish the amount of stressors in your life. The physical activity can give you energy and can also give you time to clear your mind and rejuvenate for your next set of activities.

As you are taking the time to exercise you want to focus on your body and your exercise. This will help you avoid and escape the stressors that you will inevitably experience in your everyday life.

Taking the time to avoid and rid yourself of stress may change your life. There are many different ways that you can change the stress levels in your life and ultimately you will want to find the method that is most conducive to your life.
