Humans are almost naturally prone to developing routines and getting in habits. These actions can be anything from holding to specific sleep patterns, eating the same things each day, or driving the same route to work.
Some of these are natural and improve way of life because they allow for an individual to make the most of their time or increase their health. However, some habits can be extremely detrimental to the body and psyche and should be adjusted or dropped if they are not responsible for the advancement of the individual.
There are all different reasons why people develop habits and "addictions" to things in their lives; much of the time, it has a lot to do with mental fixations and psychological feelings. If something brings pleasure or happiness, though it may be harmful, it can be very difficult to let go of it.
As far as physical fitness goes, there may be things in your life that are holding you back from being as fit and healthy as you could be. Most of these are related to diet, but some other behaviors are also included.
Probably one of the worst things for the body, according to personal trainers, is soda. There are actually a few different harmful substances in this beverage that can reduce fitness.
First off, sodas are full of refined sugars; these substances alter the metabolism and can have strange effects on energy levels. Sugars are also full of calories, and drinking them in a liquid does not offer a lot of fullness in the belly, leaving you hungry for other foods with sustenance.
However, because of the high calorie content, you have already technically utilized your allowance for that meal. All one is left with is a high calorie count and an empty stomach.
Caffeine is another substance in soda that can cause problems; this is an artificial stimulant that can be very addictive. Because of its abilities to offer highs and lows, you may feel great and energetic after consuming soda, but crash into fatigue and laziness after a few hours.
Not only does it affect you during the day, but caffeine can have strange effects on your sleep schedules as well. It is best to avoid it altogether and make use of water and low-sugar fruit juices that offer hydration, nutrients, and vitamins.
Some types of alcohols can actually lower your likelihood of developing heart disease and diabetes when ingested in small doses. However, large marathon rounds of drinking can affect the liver, nervous system, and cardiovascular health.
If you do choose to drink, try to opt for lower calorie options and those that offer more health benefits, like small amounts of beer and wine. Remember, however, that these types of drinks can be packed with calories and should be monitored.
Over the counter sleep aids can be necessary for some individuals because of insomnia and other mental disorders, but they can also be a hard habit to break. Occasional help here and there from a medicine with drowsy additives may be necessary when an individual is sick or cannot get rest, but the repeated use of sleep aids can severely affect the body.
One way to naturally improve sleep abilities is to increase exercise; you will tired out your body through the healthy level of activity, and you should notice that it is easier to fall into REM and stay there until morning. A poor habit that goes without saying is cigarettes.
These are full of carcinogens that can drastically reduce cardiovascular and respiratory health, as well as the skin and other parts of the body. Smoking cigarettes is the main way that individuals in the United States develop lung cancer; it is very difficult to avoid it in some form the longer that you smoke.
Even bumming a cigarette every now and then for social purposes can increase your likelihood of developing cancer far more than those who never smoke. Therefore, it is best to completely cut them out of your routine and find other methods to relax and socialize.
Not only will it be easier to get the intense workouts that will improve your body's fitness and tone, you will feel better day to day and not have to be dependent on cigarettes for calming effects. Addiction and habits can be trying and mentally difficult to break, but the benefits of getting rid of these actions in your life far outweigh the trouble.
