Each individual experiences stress in a different way; not all stress is bad, and it can manifest itself in various manners depending on who you are and how much pressure you feel. Recovering and relieving oneself from the burden of stress is very personal, so deciding the best manner for you may be a process of trial and error.

In general, it is thought of as a negative or bad emotion; however, there are types of anxiety that can be beneficial or inherently good. For example, one branch that is actually pivotal to healthy emotional functioning is Eustress, which contributes to feelings of excitement and exhilaration.

Without this type, the body would not be able to experience the joy that comes along with these emotions and it may constantly be in a depressed or complacent state. Chronic stress is one type, however, that can do a lot of damage to both the body and the psyche, especially if it is present over a long period of time.

Those that belong to bad categories of this emotional state often register a fight-or-flight mechanism that increases substances in the body that can be toxic to cells if produced too much or too often. This feeling can be constant, and it can make systems wear down.

It also increases the amount of cortisol within the system, which may cause the individual weight gain and fatigue. This process almost becomes some sort of vicious cycle, the more you stress and worry, the more your body changes for the worse; when you notice that you are gaining weight or not looking as healthy as you once were, you can be filled with anxiety or dread.

All of this can further contribute to one's likelihood of developing chronic ailments like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. How does one recognize stress and anxiety within their lives?

Some of the most common symptoms and indicators are frequent headaches or migraines, fatigue or tiredness, emotional eating, memory lapses, sleep troubles, and high blood pressure. The problem is that a large majority of these are also indicators of other disorder or illnesses; they can also be interconnecting and seem like one is causing the others.

For instance, a lack of sleep may bring on headaches and memory lapses. If you are unsure about why you are feeling the way that you do and you may have been under a lot of pressure recently, it may be wise to visit your doctor to determine whether or not you are suffering from anxiety or some other problem.

There are certain types of individuals that may be more prone to experiencing this emotional instability than others. A large number of perfectionists or "Type A" personalities tend to have anxiety over a number of aspects within their lives.

When things do not go the way that they expected or they are not able to control situations, it can become an automatic stress that brings panic to their minds. Even if you tend to have this outlook, there are still measures that can be taken to prevent any further complications or traumas to the body and its systems.

If you find that you have an unhealthy level of anxiety in your life, it may be possible to adopt certain methods to rid yourself of it. First off, make a list of the different stressors in your life that you experience on a daily basis.

These can be anything from school to work to family, and do not have to be serious. Once you have discovered which of the things in your routine are plaguing you, find ways that you can approach them with a more positive outlook or in a better matter.

If you find that you are stressed about deadlines at work, try to find ways to get a day or two ahead so that you do not have to worry about projects the day that they are due. When your schedule becomes hectic and you have to pick up and drop off children while maintaining a household, ask for help or try to compartmentalize activities.

Exercise is another great and natural way to relieve anxiety; try to spend at least twenty minutes every other day on the elliptical machine or treadmill at home or the local gym. You could also adopt other fitness methods like yoga, tai chi, or boxing; no matter what you decide will be the best way to help, make use of it every day to ensure your physical and mental health!
