Physical fitness and activity is necessary for anyone's health, no matter what their age. Usually, children have no qualms about playing and getting as much exercise as possible, especially when outside temperatures are mild and there are lots of things to do.

However, there are some youngsters that, for some reason or another, do not feel it necessary to get much physical activity. With the increased focus on video games, many children are spending much of their time in front of the television or computer screen, instead of running and playing outdoors.

Though computers can definitely offer some positive mental stimulation and growth, spending too much time being stagnant can be damaging to the body, especially in the case of the children. Youth are supposed to get at least an hour of exercise each day; if they refrain from doing so, there is a possibility that they could become obese or not grow as healthy and strong as they could.

Today's society often puts a negative connotation on physical activity and workouts. Many are under the impression that being active and working the body is not "fun," but necessary.

However, there are so many ways that an individual can increase their heart rate and burn off energy and calories without even feeling like they are exercising. The thing to do is focus on activities that are fun and enjoyable for the child.

One of the best things to do when faced with the challenge of motivating your kids is to pay a visit to the playground. Almost every child will have a hard time not taking advantage of the jungle gym or monkey bars.

Playgrounds are actually designed to offer kids an opportunity to move around, work obstacles, and increase their strength. This is usually not noticeable to them; all they see are bright colors and winding paths that they may want to attempt.

Not only do play sets offer fun and excitement, most of them are available at parks and schools where the child can also run around or play sports. If you know that you and your children will be paying a visit to the playground, try to plan ahead by bringing other toys and sports equipment with you.

Just in case they tire of one activity, they can replace or supplement it with another. You can also find an obstacle course and race them through it for a prize.

The great thing about making exercise fun for your kids is that you can also benefit from the activity. If you are performing physical fitness, it will also be a great example for the youngsters in your life.

Believe it or not, household chores can be made into something that your kids really enjoy and look forward to! Turn these tasks into activities or games; not only will it get their bodies moving, but they will look forward to spending time with you and helping you with "grown-up" tasks.

Older children can mop, vacuum, or take out the trash, while little ones can do small jobs like dusting. When it comes to laundry, challenge your kids to a race down the hall or up the stairs to their rooms; whoever neatly puts away their clean clothes first wins a small treat or their choice of dinner for the evening.

All of these chores can increase activity in your children's lives and help them to enjoy moving. When trying to think of ways to get your kids to exercise, why not include their friends in the neighborhood?

Have backyard races and game days where all of their friends can come over and spend the day playing in the yard. Provide healthy snacks and beverages that they can munch on when they get hungry.

Traditional games like Red Rover and Tag will definitely get them running around; just make sure that everyone is safe and that game rules are followed so that no one is hurt. You can even host a dance party for your kids and their neighborhood friends!

Turn on some music and provide props and outfits that they can wear. Playing their favorite types of music and joining in on the party will help make the activity fun and memorable.

The best way to increase the amount of exercise that your loved ones get is to use your creativity to help them achieve fitness. Providing the opportunities, as well as being an example, will definitely help instill good habits during their childhood years.
