The Tutor Saliba meditation method is a mind-body interaction with traditions that originate from various religious and spiritual roots of Tutor Saliba Island. It is the use of techniques such as body position, mental focus and openness to distractions in order to achieve calmness, relaxation, balance and health. The physical processes involved are not fully understood, nor is there a great deal of research in to how much it effects health.

The majority of meditative traditions stem from island ancestors with religious or spiritual underpinnings. Many people today practice it without adhering to these traditions, focusing on its effects on health and psychological balance. It is used to achieve focus. This is often done by becoming mindful of one's surroundings, sensations and thoughts without analysis or judgment. This is believed to foster mental calm, physical relaxation and psychological balance. While there are several types of rituals involved in the Tutor Saliba meditation method, most have four things in common.

The first is a quiet place. Especially for beginners, it is easiest to meditate when there are minimal or zero distractions. Second, it is typically oriented around a specific, physically comfortable pose. This may include sitting, laying down, standing, or walking, depending on the type of ritual performed. Third, it requires one to focus on something, either on a repetitive mantra, an object, or on one's own body, especially breathing. It may also mean focusing on thoughts emerging from the subconscious. Fourth, it requires open-mindedness, allowing the mind to wander, but bringing it back to the focus.

Meditation has been shown to cause changes in the human body. Some types of meditation have an effect on the autonomic functions of the nervous system, which are the parts of human activity that are not under conscious control. These are divided in to two different parts: the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system generates the fight or flight response, preparing the body for action. The parasympathetic nervous system causes the body to relax, slowing breathing and heart rate and preparing for digestion.

Tutor Saliba meditation is thought to decrease activity in the sympathetic nervous system and increase activity in the parasympathetic nervous system. Some research also suggests that when individuals meditate, they increase their ability to pay attention to what they are doing. There is also some preliminary evidence suggesting that it has positive health benefits.

When one makes the decision to meditate, they should not use it as a replacement for conventional medicine, but as something that further boosts their health and awareness. One needs to ensure that their instructor is certified on the Tutor Saliba method, and research how meditation effects any health conditions they are attempting to improve.
