The skin is responsible for protecting the inside of the human body. The skin is actually the body's largest organ.
In fact, it makes up 16 percent of your body weight. With the tremendous task that it has, it really does quite a good job, but it also faces a lot of wear and tear.
It is not surprise that many different things can go wrong when it is responsible for protecting so much. There are many different types of skin disorders that afflict men, women, and children.
These skin disorders often cause a variety of uncomfortable side effects such as itchiness, swelling, splitting, wrinkles, infections, changes in color, changes in texture, and changes in elasticity. In addition, these skin disorders may be caused by lack of certain healthy habits in your life such as a nutritional diet, enough sleep, or continued illness.
These disorders may also occur when you are abnormally stressed, tense, or anxious. This is why the healthiness of your skin is often examined as an indicator of how healthy you will be on the inside.
However, skin disorders can also be caused by genetics. Most of the time genetics are the cause of moles and skin tags.
These disorders are mostly annoying rather than threaten your health. In some cases though, these things can become infected or cancerous.
Moles are often referred to as beauty marks as well. They develop when melanocytes gather into one place.
Melanocytes are cells that synthesized melanins. Melanins are the things responsible for producing your skin color.
Beauty marks are harmless, even if undesired. However, they should be checked if they begin changing in shape, size, or color as overexposure to the sun can cause some of the cells to become cancerous.
If they begin to show changes, they may need to be removed. Any family physician can do this, unless the situation has become complex in some way.
Another skin disorder than many people do not like are warts. Warts are small, hard bump that develop as a result of a virus.
These warts can develop on the body, mouth, and many other areas of the body. The virus that causes these warts is the human papillomavirus (HPV) and it can be easily passed from one person to another.
Most of the time these bumps are painless, but they are often considered to be beauty defects. As a result, most people have them removed as the process is relatively painless.
A third kind of skin disorder is skin tags. Skin tags are areas of small, raised pieces of extra skin.
This extra skin is made of fat, nerves, fibers, and ducts. They are also mostly harmless, but can develop into cancerous tumors and should be watched carefully.
Skin tags are often found in the areas where there are often creases such as in the armpit, neck, groin, eyelids and so forth. Another affliction of the skin is that it develops wrinkles overtime.
Wrinkles occur when your skin thins, dries out, and becomes less elastic. Too much exposure to the sun can advance the development of wrinkles as can cigarette smoke.
Some wrinkles are simply unavoidable with age, but they can mostly be prevented as long as you take good care of your skin. You will need to find a good lotion that fully moisturizes your skin to avoid wrinkles.
A fifth skin disorder is a skin rash. These are quite common and they are caused by a number of different things.
Rashes can be identified by dry, red, and itch skin. Sometimes the skin becomes sore and swells when a rash is developed as well.
Most of the time, it also becomes irritated if you attempt to ease the itchiness by scratching the rash. On occasion a clear fluid may even be released from the skin as it dries out and becomes flaky.
There are several areas that tend to develop rashes more frequently than other areas. These areas include behind the knees, in the elbow creases, in the armpits, and between the buttocks.
Sometimes rashes are genetic, in which case they are not contagious. Other times rashes accompany an illness.
Age spots are another affliction that many people do not like to have to deal with. They are also known as sun spots or liver spots.
These areas of skin often dry out and become rough. Sometimes they develop a darker color and they come in a variety of different sizes.
There are many other types of skin disorders. Fortunately, most of the time these disorders can be treated and relieved.
