One of the most practice intensive sports is archery. This sport requires athletes to dedicate many hours to accuracy and other pursuits; because of the way that extraneous variable can affect the outcome.

Athletes have to be prepared and versatile with their skills, because there are a host of things that have to be taken into account before a successful shot is made. Often times, it is the intuition of the person and the feel for the bow that will dictate whether or not an attempt is an accurate one.

Technique and form are key to the endeavor. People that are able to reflexively fall into the right form have a much greater chance of success with their attempts.

Archery usually involves a competition that has participants stand a certain distance away from the target, taking a certain number of shots at it in the attempt to be the most accurate. Most of the time, there are other athletes present that are there directly competing with the person in this context.

Since there are a limited number of shots and a group of competitors that are right there looking for a win, people need to be able to place their shots with the greatest of accuracy. This must be performed under a myriad of circumstances.

Gear and equipment can play a huge part in the proceedings in this instance. Modern technology allows the equipment to be more powerful and accurate than ever, even going so far as to incorporate firearm technology into the mix.

Most athletes in today's archery worlds make use of compound bows, with adjustable difficulty associated with a draw. These bows are usually made of lightweight and durable materials, which can hold up under the most extreme of circumstances.

The design of the bow incorporate pulleys and a special tension system that allows the person to more easily draw the string all the way back, and then locks in the draw for as long as the person can hold it. This saves the person from having to manually hold the string back the entire time, allowing them to focus on their aim and not the strain of holding back that many pounds of pressure.

The arrows that are used are generally made out of lightweight plastic or composite graphite, which allows for perfect construction with each one. They are usually fletched with a lightweight and flexible plastic, allowing them to soar with accuracy.

This makes for a much easier experience for those that are firing, because abnormalities in their arrows are not as present as they were in the far past. Additionally, their bows are able to easily be drawn back with a great amount of contained force, and aimed without worry.

In order to fire a bow accurately, technique is needed. The athlete needs to stand with their legs about a shoulder width apart, running parallel to the target that they are firing at.

The positioning of the legs should make the body turn so that the person draws back the string with their dominant hand. The other arm should be directly extended toward the target, being held as rigidly as possibly.

The person should breathe in as they draw the sting, taking a long and controlled breath. Once the string is fully extended back to the cheek, the athlete should then focus on aiming slowly while breathing in, allowing them to steady their aim.

When it is time to fire, then the participant should exhale their breath and release their arrow. It is important to maintain form and keep the bow on target; otherwise the power that is unleashed wit release may have a last second effect on the overall result.

Using this form is the best way to guarantee an accurate attempt for an athlete. Practicing the steps over and over should be a priority until the athlete is able to instantly perform them all without thinking about it, reflexively firing arrows the right way.

Archery requires form and precision in order to guarantee accuracy for the athlete. Practice and the right equipment can help mitigate some of the circumstances that might affect aim, but it is up to the athlete to get the feel for their bow and know exactly where their arrow will go.
