One of the most important parts of playing laser tag is utilizing strategy in order to gain an advantage over opponents. The game is usually played in casual setting, but at any level of competition the skills can be effective,

Laser tag is sport that requires aim and precision, but it also emphasizes working as a team and contributing to an effort. Understanding the general dynamics of a situation is a highly important aspect of getting better at it.

Laser tag is different than paintball because of the way that the projectiles are completely instantaneous and visible, allowing people to easily track and adjust their shots. Additionally, the players do not have to worry about ammunition as much as paintball people do, and the gear that is worn is much more lightweight than the paintball counterpart.

The arenas are usually more confined, and they are almost always dark. Therefore, positioning and concealment are very important.

There is less overall movement in laser tag, and there is the notable lack of physical pain that accompanies an opposing shot. Combining all of these factors tighter makes laser tag a sport that is more focused and fast paced than others like it.

However, there is less of an emphasis of diving from cover to cover. Instead, movement is usually deliberate and slower, in order to reduce movement visibility, along with safety restrictions that prohibit running or diving behind cover.

Therefore, the laser tag player needs to be able to deliberately aim their shots and move with purpose. The lasers are a two edged sword in this game, because they both show where the shots are going, while illuminating the players position.

People need to more deliberate with their shots because every shot will give away positioning. Additionally, it is easy for teams to hone in on one user and immediately eliminate them, so traveling in loose groups is encouraged.

Since movement and position are so important in this sport, knowing how to apply tactics is a very important part of the experience. Applying strategy to the mix will allow for people to safely eliminate the opposition in an effective and risk free manner.

The key to the whole experience lies with sight lies and the amount of people that can be brought to bear on a target. Since laser tag arenas are more confined, there is less overall space to move around in.

Controlling strategic areas or choke points is very important to keep in mind, since these will bottleneck the opposition and leave them to be tagged and alienated. Additionally, staying out of sight is critical.

Most arenas have a maze like array of obstacles that they have installed, which allow people to find areas that they feel like holding down, and remaining concealed until the time to strike comes. Finding a good place to stay concealed will allow the user to make the most of the ambient darkness, which is often the greatest weakness found in other players.

Sight lines are the most strategic element available for people to take advantage of. A good sight line is one that allows for clean shots down a corridor or flat area, where the player can easily see the other team before being seen.

Strategy comes into play as the teams move around trying to gain position. By spreading out a few teammates in a close formation and picking out different sight lines, players can lock down an area and completely restrict foot traffic through it.

A good way to cover an area almost completely is to have people on the edges of the arena, and having a few more covering vital areas in the middle. Strategic layout allows people to have good clean shots and being able to watch their teammates and their movements.

All of these elements combine together to make laser tag a game that can be manipulated by strategy and tactics with ease. Taking the time to coordinate movement and covered areas will make a team almost unstoppable, because they will be able to easily fend off attempts to take back an area.

Strategic denial of movement is one of the most key elements at play. Denying the other team their intended paths will throw off their game.

Using strategy in laser tag will help ensure that the participant is able to achieve victory. Employing the correct tactics for the situation and using skills is the best and most efficient way to win.
