So you want to learn how to build a home sauna indoors. One point to consider is that a project of this size will take several weekends to complete, so enlisting the help of friends and family is a great idea. Most of the project can be performed by a do it yourself home owner. When it comes to the installation of plumbing and wiring, hiring a contractor is recommended.

The first step is to decide on the location to allow measurements to be taken prior to ordering the kit. An important thing to remember is that the kit must be installed on a surface that will not absorb moisture, such as carpet, bare earth, etc. Once the location has been decided upon, it is time to purchase the kit that will be used in the installation process. Fabricated models can be ordered with all the necessary items required to install the unit. There will be some modifications that will be required; as such, having tools on hand is essential.

The manufacturer provides a set of plans with every kit. Using the plans, measure and place markers where the wall base plate will be installed. Following the markers that were created, use a snap chalk line to create an outline for the frame. After marking the area for the frame, lay out the bottom plate. After laying down the bottom plate, an additional plate will need to be created for the top plate.

In order to make sure the studs are the proper size, they must be cut to fit. After the studs have been modified, they are ready to be attached to the plate assemblies. Upon completing the frame, it is time to add adhesive to the underside of the bottom plate. The adhesive not only helps to create a seal between the structure and the floor, it also provides additional stability as well. Stand the frame up so it can be anchored to the floor and walls. Proper anchoring of the bottom plate requires anchor bolts or concrete nails. The top plate is secured to existing studs in the walls using galvanized nails.

After securing the frame in place, the wiring is ready for a certified electrician to install. The controls for the unit can be installed inside or outside for convenience, the final decision is up to the home owner. With the wiring installed, the next step is to install the foil vapor barrier and the insulation so the heat will be kept inside. The vapor material is installed over the insulation with the shiny side out. This allows the heat to reflect back into the room to prevent moisture build up in the walls.

With the insulation and foil vapor in place, the interior walls are ready to for installation. The wood to be used can be installed either vertically or horizontally using a tongue and groove method. In order to provide a safe environment, the nails used to install the walls are counter sunk so they will not protrude from the wall. For safety reasons the door is designed to open outward. Another recommendation is that a person should purchase a door from a manufacturer instead of building one from scratch.

When installing windows into the unit, it is highly recommended to use single pane glass to allow for the expansion of the glass to prevent cracking when the room heats up. The heating units available for installation come in electric, gas and wood burning models. The heating unit must be installed by a licensed professional, regardless of what type is used.

Once the unit is completed its time to test it out. Be sure to practice safety by verifying the door is not obstructed in any way before entering the room. If the heating system becomes faulty, call a professional for repairs.
