Those of us who battle excess weight each have our own "problem areas" that cause ongoing frustration, but almost everyone is familiar with the trouble that comes with trying to eradicate belly fat. While you have probably come across countless articles and advertisements claiming to hold the singular secret to blasting the fat, I am instead going to give you a variety of approaches to consider to help you construct the best plan of attack.

The number one adjustment that has helped me dump excess fat is to cut most simple sugars from my diet. Soda, white bread, pasta, etc. are all common staples in our diet, but add little nutrition and don't provide long-term energy. When these simple carbohydrates and starches don't get burned, they are ultimately stored as fat.

So don't sabotage yourself. Brown rice, wheat bread, and wheat pasta contain high levels of dietary fiber which keeps your digestive system running smoothly. They also tend to have fewer calories but keep you feeling full longer. Many experts agree that reducing saturated fats from your intake is also beneficial in fighting abdominal fat stores.

You might feel accomplished after spending an hour on the elliptical machine, but fitness research shows that individuals that pushed themselves as hard as they could for shorter periods of time shed more fat, even if the calories burned were almost the same. Make your cardio workout more intense by amping up resistance, increasing the incline, or going faster.

Make time for at least 30 minutes of an aerobic routine six days out of every week. Make sure that you implement a variety of types of cardio to work all your muscle groups.

Reduce your stress levels with yoga, massage therapy, and indulging in favorite hobbies. High stress often causes the body to produce a hormone called cortisol, which triggers fat retention, especially around the waistline. Finding adequate ways to lower stress can slow the hormone manufacture, making it easier to shed the weight.
Sometimes an underlying medical condition or obesity can stand in the way of making progress without outside help. Before beginning any diet and/or exercise routine, you should consult with your doctor, but that is especially important if you are severely overweight.

For some people, a lap band surgery is a viable option to obtain the fat loss they so desire. If this option sounds appealing to you after you've done some research and asked your physician, then you may want to investigate facilities in your area that specialize in this surgery.

Not all are created equal, so make sure to ask plenty of questions. A Los Angeles Lap Band facility has been trusted with some family members' procedures, but they made sure to investigate all angles before leaping into it.
