Obesity can lead to a variety of health problems and early death. Not only does it impact the person who is obese, but this condition can have an impact on others as well.

For example, obesity in pregnant women can result in birth defects in the baby when it is born. There are a variety of birth defects that a baby can be born with as a result of obesity.

One of the birth defects that a baby may develop as a result of obesity is spina bifida. Spina bifida is a condition where the spine develops, but is left exposed to the outer world.

As a result, the spine can be damaged. When this happens, the baby may suffer from mobility and incontinence problems.

The baby may also suffer from heart defects, anorectal atresia, hypospadias, limb reduction defects, a diaphragmatic hernia, and omphalocele. A diaphragmatic hernia is a condition in which there is an opening in the diaphragm through which the organs can move into the chest cavity.

When this happens, it may cause the lungs to become underdeveloped. A omphalocele is a condition through which the intestines and other organs are allowed to hang outside of the navel.

Many of these birth defects have to do with a problem in the structural makeup of the child. The correlation between the structural makeup and obesity is still unknown.

However, some researchers suspect that changes in glycemic control contribute to an increased risk of structural problems. This is the case even in comparison to women who were diagnosed with diabetes before becoming pregnant.

Fortunately, there are still ways to reduce the risk of birth defects. One of the first things you will want to do is watch your diet.

You should make sure you eat a variety of fruits and vegetables because they contain a large amount of vitamins and minerals that can help prevent these conditions. However, you should also take steps to lose weight.

Make sure you eliminate junk food. While you are pregnant, you should also make sure that you avoid sushi, raw oysters, and soft cheeses.

In addition, you should make sure that you take prenatal vitamins to ensure that you are providing the fetus with all of the nutrients that it needs. Even though you should watch the foods you are eating, you should not starve yourself while you are pregnant.

You should still gain some weight throughout your pregnancy, but you will want to gain it slowly instead of in large chunks. If you struggle with keeping a healthy diet because you get hungry in between meals, try eating a smaller mean every four hours instead of only three times a day.

Throughout your pregnancy, you will also have cravings for various foods. It is okay to eat a little of these cravings, but do not indulge yourself too much.

Your craving can be satisfied with a little of the desired food instead of a lot of the food. As you stick to a healthy diet, make sure you reward yourself every once in a while so that you will continue to want to stick to the diet.

Throughout your pregnancy, you should gain between 15 and 25 pounds. This means that you should be gaining about 2 or 3 pounds per month, with more of a weight gain in the second and third trimesters.

You should not be concerned if you do not gain any weight during the first trimester. Morning sickness can cause you to lose weight as well as gain it.

In order to only gain as much as you should be gaining, you should also make sure that you stick to a regular exercise routine. Some types of exercises will be dangerous for you to perform later in your pregnancy, so you will want to make sure that you consult with your doctor before performing them.

However, one of the safest types of exercises while you are pregnant is walking at home on a treadmill. Walking does not cause jolting like running does.

In addition, by walking at home on the treadmill, you will be able to stop and lie down when you need to. It is also quite convenient if you have other children already.

You will be able to watch your children as you exercise instead of paying for a babysitter. No matter what kind of exercise you choose to do, it is very important that you combine it with a good diet to reduce the risk that your baby will be born with a birth defect.
