There are many conditions that can afflict the skin. However, one of the most common afflictions that many people are forced to deal with is acne.

Acne develops when the pores on the skin become clogged and become irritated. These irritated spots can develop all over the body, they are not limited to the face even though most people deal with the kind that develop on the face.

Another common area for acne to develop is on the back. The cause for these spots on the back is the same for facial irritation as well.

This problem usually develops around the time of puberty, when a person may become concerned about how he or she looks. Zits can commonly develop in the back because there are more sebaceous glands there than in other areas on the body.

In addition, the skin tends to be thicker on the back, which allows the infection to go deeper than other areas and therefore hard to treat. Besides puberty, studies suspect that genetics and stress can also add to the likelihood of this condition.

No matter how this condition is developed, there are many things you can do to treat it. The first thing you will want to make sure you do is wash the affected area regularly.

This means that you should probably take a shower every day. It is also a good idea to use anti-bacterial soap as bacteria also play a role in the development of zits.

In areas that are more accessible, such as the face, it is a good idea to wash it thoroughly twice a day. However, you do not want to excessively wash this area or you could make the condition worse.

By over washing, the soap will dry out the skin and leave it more vulnerable to excess oil and getting clogged. However, you should make sure that you at least rinse off your skin when you have participated in sports or another activity that has caused you to sweat a lot.

Sweat can also clog your pores and make the acne you have much worse. In addition to washing the area properly, you will want to make sure that you exfoliate the area fairly often.

Depending on your particular case, you may want to also do this daily or you may want to do this once a week. The purpose of exfoliation is to remove dead skin cells that can add to the problem.

You should not exfoliate your face more than once a week because the skin there is thinner. However, it is okay to exfoliate more often on your back because the skin there tends to be thicker.

There are many different things that you can do to exfoliate the affect area. Sometime a simple washcloth will be enough.

In other cases, you may want to try a loofah or brush. While you are exfoliating, you should make sure that you do not overdo it and irritate the healthy skin.

If you choose to use a scrub, you may want to consider going for a sugar based solution rather than a salt based solution. While they will both work, salt tends to be much more irritating to various areas.

Salt based products can also sting if a zit pops and is suddenly exposed to the product. However, if you notice that your skin is getting irritated, you will want to make sure that you reduce the number of times that you exfoliate.

Another thing you may want to consider doing if the problem is still present on your back is using a medicated cream or gel directly on the problems spots. These creams and gels usually contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

These two ingredients tend to be the most effective, but there are other products out there that may work as well. However, choose products that only contain one of these ingredients as they can react poorly with each other.

In addition, you should not use one product that contains benzoyl peroxide and one that contains salicylic acid at the same time, for the same reason. It is best to apply these creams and medications about ten minutes after you have washed the affected area thoroughly.

This will give the area enough time to try completely and the dirt will not be on the skin any more. You should also be careful to make sure that these products do not get on your clothes because of they can sometimes bleach the color.
