When you are working out on a regular basis it is very important to make sure that you are eating properly. If you do not eat properly, you could develop a variety of health problems and you will feel low on energy.

In addition, you will not be able to continue performing well on low energy. While eating properly is critical for the health of an endurance athlete, it is also very important for any athlete, no matter what kind of exercise he or she is performing.

Something as simple as working out on the elliptical also requires healthy eating. There are many things that an athlete should have in his or her cupboards as a regular staple.

The first thing that will be needed is quinoa. Quinoa is very popular for its high nutritional value and because it can be cooked quite quickly.

Unlike a variety of other kinds of grains, this one can be cooked in only ten to fifteen minutes. Many other grains must be cooked much longer than this to reach a favorable consistency and texture.

Traditionally, quinoa was used extensively by those in ancient South America. The Incas used this grain heavily in their armies to feed their warriors because of the duration of energy that it gave them.

As a result of eating the quinoa, they were able to run long distances in very high altitude locations. The reason quinoa is so healthy for an athlete is that it is a complete protein.

A complete protein is one that has all nine of the essential amino acids that your body needs. In addition to the fact that is so healthy, it is an ideal food for athletes who are vegetarians and cannot get their protein through chicken or other meats.

In addition to the great source of protein, quinoa also contains quite a bit of manganese, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, and calcium. It is also gluten free, which is ideal for the many people who are gluten intolerant.

This makes it easy to digest, plus it also has a unique nutty flavor that tastes quite good. Another food that should be on the shelves of every athlete is almond butter.

Almond butter is very similar to peanut butter, but it contains even more nutrients that peanut butter does. It contains protein, calcium, fiber, magnesium, folic acid, potassium, and vitamin E.

Due to the amount of protein in almond butter, it will help you feel full much longer than if you were to eat other food items. This spread can go on or in anything that you would normally put peanut butter on.

You may even find some other things that it goes great on as well. Another food item that should definitely be a part of every athlete's diet is anything green and leafy.

Kale, Swiss chard, collard greens and so forth are an especially important part of an athlete's diet. However, they are often the item that is missing the most often.

These vegetables are full of calcium, vitamin C, magnesium, zinc, iron, and so forth. Green, leafy vegetables are easy to prepare and they are a great side to any meal.

There are many different kinds of sauces that can make them taste wonderful as well. They should be eaten much more often than they actually are.

A less commonly eaten dinner is salmon. However, it can be a great source of protein for an athlete as well.

The great benefit of eating salmon as your source for protein is that it will not leave you feeling slow and tired afterward. As far as meats go, fish is a fairly light dinner.

The essential fatty acid omega 3 is also found in salmon. This fatty acid is critical to helping you lose weight, boost the cardiovascular system, relieve arthritis pain and inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and improve oxygen transport and so forth.

There are many different ways in which you can eat salmon. These foods are not commonly found in an athlete's cupboard even though they should be.

They are important for every type of exercise and can even make a simple elliptical exercise routine easier by providing your body with the energy that it needs. The elliptical uses the entire body and as a result, your body will need the proper amount of fuel in order to perform at its highest capability.

Eating properly will ensure a safe workout as you will not faint. In addition, it will help you feel more energized.
