Bariatrics first came to be around 1965. This branch of medicine deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity. The significant rise of number of individuals who are considered to be obese or overweight is alarming. This specialized field of medicine covers behavioral therapy, exercise, and dieting as well as pharmacotherapy and surgery. Bariatric eating is under this branch of medicine, specifically in terms of dieting and it has what they refer to as the ten rules which are the following:

1. Ingest your protein first among others. It keeps you feeling full even after a few hours for it delays stomach emptying. Every meal usually includes protein as part of the diet.

2. Solid form of food should be a priority over soft or mushy food. Solid type of food will take a while to digest. This means that it will stay for a longer period of time in your stomach. Therefore hunger is delayed and this will significantly decrease your calorie intake.

3. Eating and drinking at the same time should always be avoided for it will turn your food into something soft or mushy. The reason is explained well in rule number two.

4. It is best not to drink high caloric liquids or any form of beverage that contains calories like milkshakes, juices, coffee drinks, soda pops, and the like.

5. After a Bariatric surgery in order to avoid chances of an obstruction you should only take in small pea sized bites.

6. When you eat something make sure to chew each bite thoroughly especially post Bariatric surgery to help ensure that no obstruction of large particles will occur.

7. In order for you not to over eat and cause your pouch to stretch then it is best to finish a meal with in 20-30min by eating slowly.

8. Once you feel full stop eating to avoid your pouch to be stretch or in some cases cause you to vomit especially after surgery.

9. Hydration is very important but as previously stated you must still

avoid caloric beverages.

10. Nutrition is crucial and taking in your Bariatric vitamins is a very important component in order for you to succeed after a weight loss surgery. This will require you to do it on a regular basis for the rest of your life.

Obesity includes a lot of health risk like heart disease, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic musculoskeletal problems, asthma, and many types of cancer. Bariatrics provides an answer to the serious case of obesity. They provide so much alternative medical and surgical solutions and Bariatric eating is one of those many solutions. It will require dedication, discipline, and commitment on your part. Keep in mind that health is indeed wealth.
