One of conveniences of the modern era is the air purifier. Since it was invented, it has been improved significantly and these appliances have become increasingly popular both for the home and for travel.

Statistics have shown that sales in this area have tripled since the 1990s when a useable version of this product first began to be sold. Today, almost 14 percent of all households in the United States depend on these modern machines to reduce their allergies and provide them with clean, breathable oxygen.

In 1999, almost $350 million of revenue was earned on the portable version of these machines alone. The portable versions are ideal for taking with you on business trips and vacations to hotels that may be filled with contaminants.

Air purifiers are designed to remove the dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, pet allergens, and other contaminants from oxygen. Some of these things can be removed through other means, but these machines have proven to be the most effective in this arena.

The best way to keep dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, pet allergens, and other contaminants from oxygen, is to stop the source that is producing these things. However, this is not always feasible.

Another thing that can help remove dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, pet allergens, and other contaminants from the air is providing good ventilation between the rooms of your home. With good ventilation, these things will be encouraged to leave your home as soon as possible.

You may also want to check your furnace filter to make sure that it is designed both to protect the mechanical insides of the furnace as well as to remove contaminants so that you do not breathe them. Most standard furnace filters are only designed to keep larger particles of dirt from clogging up the mechanics.

However, there are higher quality filters available that you can install to protect your family from breathing the gases, vapors, and other particles that are produced by the furnace. Of course, you may need to replace this filter more often because it will become dirty quite quickly.

You will also need to consider how much horsepower that your furnace has before you install a higher quality filter. Some lower grade furnaces are not designed to be able to blow the air through these tightly knit filters.

As a result, you may want to consider replacing your furnace with a modern version that facilitates cleaner air. There are three main components to controlling the quality of the oxygen you breathe in your home.

You must work to stop the production of contaminants when possible, encourage great ventilation, and clean the air itself. These three things, when properly carried out, can significantly increase the quality of the air you breathe.

Those who suffer from allergies and who suffer from asthma tend to benefit the most from a air purifiers. Multiple studies have found that the side effects of these conditions were often greatly reduced within the home when one of these machines was used.

There are many different types of these machines that you can choose from. There are mechanical filters, electronic cleaners, and hybrids.

Mechanical filtration appliances pull the air in through a particular type of filter that traps most of the particles. An electronic cleaner will remove particles as well, but it is not successful in trapping gases.

As a result, an artificial ozone can be produced which will irritate the lungs. Some versions of these cleaners use a negative ion generator system.

This makes the particles in the air extremely heavy so that they fall out of the air. Unfortunately, when they escape out the other end of the machine, they will settle on walls, floors, furniture, and other nearby items.

These ionized particles are extremely difficult to clean off the surrounding areas. In addition, these particles could be stirred up and breathed in, at which point they would settle in the lungs.

If you invest in an ionized particle generator, you will want to make sure that unit has a good collector that will capture these particles and that the collector is cleaned or replaced as often as necessary. However, an ionized particle generator without a collector could be more dangerous than simply breathing unfiltered air.

Hybrids are machines that are a combination of the systems in a mechanical filtration machine and an electronic cleaner. There are positives can be gleaned from both systems in a hybrid, although there are definitely some other aspects that you will have to carefully consider to make sure that it is the right choice for your home.
