The subject of STD testing can seem like taboo to many people. No one likes to think about the subject and it can definitely be hard to face. Some places even have the capability of providing results within the first 24 hours. This means that the angst of waiting will be lessened considerably than what many people tend to expect.
Remember also that not all assumptions or rumors are true. There are often payment plans and free consultations for those who are struggling with positive results. Those who do not ask questions will likely be held back by misconceptions until they face the issue. Be sure to get the facts and get tested to ensure the safety of any future partners.
